Tom's tips

For those of you who fancy a flutter and followed my tips over the last few weeks you will be looking forward to the close of the current transfer window for multiple reasons. Firstly it will hopefully lead to a break in the Fabregas to Barca campaign, secondly it will mean you have collected a profit from the bookmakers and thirdly it will also successfully conclude our second tip which was to 'Lay' Phil Jagielka playing for the Gunners in September. Although to be honest I wouldn't have minded taking a hit on that one as I would be extremely confident of getting it back on an Arsenal finish in the top two next May.

Moving on and our latest recruit who we haven't actually recruited yet, Wellington Silva, has been causing quite a stir in cyber space. Allegedly our new messiah is already better than Messi, actually no change that. Messi wouldn't be fit to lace his boots, as one Mania poster already put it. Whether or not he does make a breakthrough in the next 12 months will remain to be seen but it should provide a source of great interest to those of you local enough and loyal enough to regularly support our reserve outfit.

Stuart Pearce today announced his Under 21 squad for an upcoming friendly against Uzbekistan. Our very own Jack Wilshere and Kieran Gibbs were conspicuous by their absence. There is now a reasonable train of thought that would lead you to think that they have instead made Fabio Capello's senior squad. As an Arsenal fan you can look at it one of two ways. Its either a good thing or a bad thing.

Personally I think the squad could in all probability be a development squad with some of the senior flops, sorry I mean senior stars, staying with their clubs. This in turn will reduce the expectation around the squad and game and will also only serve to copper fasten what both of those players already knew. That with a sound attitude the footballing world is at their feet.

Should however Don Fabio throw another wobbler and decide that the bones of his world cup squad need to buckle down asap and start preparing for the Euro qualifying campaign then both our young tyros may get game time in what would be a centre pf attention game. Should they succeed then they no longer become Arsenal players but they are re-branded as English players. If they don't do well then there will be another knee jerk reaction from the media and the hacks who want to stick the knife in will already have to pick their side and they won't give a second thought to the feelings of anyone else.

Hopefully they get a run out at some stage in the future but to be honest I would be happy to see them sit the game out and instead let Theo Walcott show the world what they missed out on by not taking him to South Africa. With our next generation of talented youths being, in the main, English nationals then it might be some time again before Theo carries the Arsenal flag to Wembley on his own.

Finally, as you will all know by now our captain extraordinaire has returned officially to start pre-season training. This will come as a surprise to the bunch of moaning arrogant gits in Barcelona but there was a picture of him smiling. Yes, actually smiling. And all of his own free will. It turns out that our captain isn't being held against his will and actually likes playing football for Arsenal. Surprise surprise, you tanned bunch of twats. (No not you, unless your pseudonym is Iniesta).

P.S. My next top tip will be revealed as soon as we collect from the two outstanding wagers.
