Former Arsenal hero Ray Parlour believes Robin van Persie could benefit from a slightly different role this season.
The Dutchman was used as a lone striker in Arsène Wenger's new 4-3-3 formation last year, but that role is now expected to be taken up by new signing Marouane Chamakh.
Parlour, however, believes that van Persie could be effective playing as one of the wide forwards, as he often does for the Netherlands.
He said: "I'd definitely play van Persie on one of the wings, maybe cutting in from the right, as one of the front three.
"It's something a lot of clubs do nowadays, and it works well."
The former midfielder also believes the 4-3-3 formation could bring out the best in a lot of Arsenal's attacking players, who are all somewhere between wingers and strikers in their playing style.
He said: "There's lot of options - you've got Andrey Arshavin, [Theo] Walcott, [Jack] Wilshere's coming through as well, so plenty to choose from.
"Nasri's looked really sharp. Wenger's liked the way he's got into pre-season, he's been at the front when they've done runs, so he could be really up there this season."
Parlour added that he hopes to see more from his old side when they face the big teams this season, unlike in the last campaign when they were beaten home and away by Manchester United and Chelsea.
He said: "If you can get get four points from one of those teams - maybe a win at home and a draw away - against Chelsea, for example, or Manchester United, you're going to come very close to the title."
