Manager Arsène Wenger conceded that 1-1 was probably a fair result in today's match against Liverpool.
The Frenchman saw his side go 1-0 down to ten men Liverpool, after debutant Joe Cole was sent off for a reckless tackle on defender Laurent Koscielny.
But despite playing against ten men, it was Liverpool who were the more industrious side, with Arsenal levelling in the dying minutes of normal time through a Pepe Reina own goal.
Wenger said: "It was a game where we had a lot of possession.
"In the first half we controlled the game and our keeper didn't have a lot to do.
"In fairness they defended well, we had the ball in their half a lot but didn't find any openings.
"I thought in the second half we could do that better but they had a strong start and it was very difficult at 1-0 down against 10 men who played very deep.
"They intelligently took the fluency out of the game. We just kept going and throwing more and more people forward and in the end we got a deserved equaliser.
"I couldn't see us losing a game like that without being deeply hurt because we had a lot of possession.
"I agree that we lacked a bit of spark in the final third but overall they have shown the right attitude.
"We were quite solid as a team, our passing is still decent and we need a bit more penetration in the final third to take advantage of our possession.
"That is a bit normal because many players are just coming back from the World Cup and some from injuries. It is a positive that the spirit is there and the attitude was good."
