Fabianski remains determined

Polish goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski does not want to let fans' criticism get him down.

In stark contrast to Manuel Almunia's defeatist comments yesterday, Fabianski wants to use the negative attention to spur him on to improve.

Both of Arsenal's goalkeepers made high-profile errors for the first-team last season, and the club are now being linked with moves for Shay Given or Mark Schwarzer.

Fabianski understands the criticism that has come his way, and knows he needs to do more to prove himself capable of playing for Arsenal.

The 25-year-old said: "As a player you have to prove that you deserve a chance.

"I can understand every single shout against me and it can only motivate me to play better and work harder.

"But of course I am going to do everything in my power to show that I deserve to be respected. Then maybe they [the Arsenal fans] will start singing my name - that would be wonderful."

Elsewhere on the goalkeeping front, Man City boss Roberto Mancini says he will not get in the way should Given choose to leave the club.

He said: "I hope he can stay, but I respect his decision if he wants to leave."
