Manager Arsène Wenger revealed yesterday that the club was getting closer to a new signing.
Whilst the Frenchman conceded that he wasn't close to an agreement yet, he admitted that there had been some progress made.
The club has identified the central defence position as an area of concern, with only Thomas Vermaelen and Laurent Koscielney as the only two recognised central defenders.
In the last week, Spanish club Sevilla released a statement indicating that Arsenal had put in a formal bid for French international Sebastien Squillaci.
Wenger said: "Not at the moment. We got a bit closer today, but not yet.
"It's not the goalkeeping situation, we are a bit short defensively and on that front we have got a bit closer. Nothing has been signed though.
"I will leave you to guess, but you are usually not bad at guessing."
