Let's have a French revolution!

Let's have a French revolution!

So, a 6-0 home win at the weekend and we have been suddenly made to look a whole lot tastier than many will have you believe. That was until Chelsea, for the second weekend in succession, and lo and behold, Newcastle, ran in six goals apiece themselves to really downsize the scale of our "achievement" against newly promoted Blackpool.

A good confidence boosting victory nevertheless as we prepare for the considerably stiffer challenge of Blackburn.

Onto the signings front, and there finally seems to be some movement in the right direction. An Arsène Wenger signing is always very much of the off-guard variety, with loads of links and names mentioned all year round, and with the name mentioned last invariably turning out to be the real deal.

And so it was with France and Sevilla's Sébastien Squillaci, as he prepares to make the move to north London in the coming day or two.

Good signing? Well he definitely ticks many of the currently unfilled boxes, what with experience and all that shebang. He's also been all the way in the Champions' League, and has the physical attributes to be a success in England, and so, in that respect, I was pleasantly surprised when hearing of his imminent signing.

I was even more pleasantly surprised, as I'm sure you all will have been, to hear Arsène Wenger implying that he was in fact on the lookout for more defensive cover and that he was ready to work on that upon Squillaci's arrival. So, we've waited for months in a week we might possess a squad with enough depth to say we can challenge for the title. All the tension and worry and anxiety over our paper-thin squad and the manager is about to treat us to not one, but two defenders. Perhaps Arsène has developed a passion for psychological thrillers of late, but there you have it.

Less promising news about goalkeepers, mind, with Wenger acknowledging that Fulham are not about to let go of Mark Schwarzer all that easily, while the media seem to have gone town over thinking that the manager could possibly even cherish the thought of paying up to £20 million for a keeper in the shape of Maarten Stekelenburg! Dream on I say (a fairly good dream I reckon, that in the least dodgy way possible)!

Elsewhere, William Gallas' move across the Seven Sisters Road seems to have got a few Gooners in a spot of bother. In all honesty, I was surprised at the move, but not entirely angered or disappointed. After all, this is a man who threatened to score an own goal against his own side in wanting to switch over to us, and who was a key cornerstone in the strike for playing for his own country during the World Cup, not to mention the whole package that is William Gallas. With Gallas, not only do you get a good centre back (a good centre back on the wane), but you get a case. And in that respect, Spurs are welcome to him!

Finally, it was interesting how Squillaci has given us a further insight into his desire to complete a move to Arsenal, stating that literally any Frenchman would jump at the

chance to join the Club for obvious reasons.

Well you know what to do now, Arsène. Next up please: bids for Lloris, Mexes, Toulalan... Yeah, right.
