Former defender joins Werder Bremen

Former Arsenal defender Mikael Silvestre has joined German side Werder Bremen on a two-year contract.

The 33-year-old was not offered a new deal when his contract expired at the Emirates.

He has since been without a club and whilst revealing there were several other offers, the offer from Bremen was one that appealed most to him.

Silvestre said: "This is a great new adventure for me.

"There were other offers, but (coach) Thomas Schaaf and (general manager) Klaus Allofsfascinated me.

"I want to be one of the leading players in the team and to help guide the younger players."

Arsenal Mania wishes Silvestre all the best in his future career.
