Arsène Wenger believes his signing of the experienced centre-back Sebastien Squillaci will mean William Gallas is not missed too much by Arsenal.
Gallas, as well as experienced duo Sol Campbell and Mikael Silvestre, left the club on a free transfer this summer, leaving Wenger's side a little thin at the back.
The former Arsenal captain made a controversial move across North London to rivals Tottenham, but Wenger has moved to bring in French pair Laurent Koscielny and Squillaci.
Wenger believes Squillaci is an ideal replacement for Gallas, as he is experienced and should have no trouble getting used to the English game.
He said: "He is a real defender and is good in the one against one, good in the air, and can score goals on set-pieces as well. I believe he will be well suited to the English game.
"We needed a centre-back of quality and experience if possible, and at the right price - he was all of that."
The manager also insists he will hold no grudges against his former employee Gallas for moving to Spurs.
He added: "I don't think it is a major problem for Gallas. I personally accept completely that he goes to Spurs because he has not found an agreement with us and then we must accept he signs where he wants.
"In the derby, Gallas might be exposed to fan chants and things like that, but you always want your fans to show respect for people that have played for your club.
"We do not always get it because there are always excessive reactions but the biggest part of the Club will understand that."
