Manager Arsène Wenger has said that defender Thomas Vermaelen is unlikely to return in tonight's match against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Belgian international was originally scheduled to return after Wenger claimed on Friday that the centre back was only 'days' away from returning.
But a setback to the recovery process now means that the former Ajax captain will have to see a specialist.
Wenger said: "I don't know where we go with Thomas time-wise but, at the moment, he cannot play.
"On the scan, his Achilles is completely clear but as soon as he stays out for a while, it tightens up and he has pain. We don't know the source of his pain."
The Frenchman also revealed that midfielder Abou Diaby was also out, due to have a fitness test either today or tomorrow.
Wenger explained: "If he gets through that, it will be very quick; if he still has pain, he will have to see a specialist."
But there was good news surrounding the return of Samir Nasri, who Wenger says is available to face Wolves.
He added: "Samir Nasri is OK and available.
"Robin van Persie had only one training session before Sunday. He gets sharper everyday. Yesterday he had some pain because it was the first time he had played.
"But today he was better already. In a few days he will be alright."
