Arsenal legend and former midfielder Robért Píres has admitted that he had to buy a flat at the club's re-developed Highbury grounds because of what he achieved there.
Píres was a member of the Invincibles as well as winning two Premier League titles, three FA Cup's and two Community Shields.
The Frenchman, now a free agent after being released by Spanish side Villarreal, is currently training with the club to regain match fitness ahead of a potential signing with Aston Villa this week.
Speaking to FourFourTwo magazine, "I chose a simple one. I had to buy it, because of everything we did there, because of what Highbury is.
"The other day when I was there I was almost crying. You look out at the pitch, which is now a garden.
"When you think about what was there before it's... [big sigh, deep breath]... it's hard to see Highbury like that."
The 37-year-old is hoping to pass a medical this week and sign for Villa in time for the weekend's match against Blackburn Rovers.
Villa assistant manager Gary McAllister said: "It's perfect. I am sure he will arrive at the training ground in good condition.
"He's a player everyone can look up to because of what he has achieved."
