Manager Arsčne Wenger sought to explain the reasons for him not snapping up former player Robért Píres after the Frenchman became available in the summer.
Píres was released by Spanish side Villarreal but has since been training at London Colney hoping to build up his match fitness ahead of a potential signing with Aston Villa before the end of the week.
Whilst many Arsenal fans are hoping to see a legend play again for the club, ala Sol Campbell earlier this year, Wenger outlined his reasons for not including Píres into his squad.
And it certainly isn't for a lack of ability, with Wenger categorically stating that the 37-year-old can still have an impact in the Premier League.
Wenger said: "Believe me, he can play in the Premier League.
"If I was a Premier League manager looking for a creative player I would take Píres tomorrow.
"I will help him to get fit but I have Rosicky, Nasri, Fabregas, Wilshere and Arshavin who all play in the same kind of manner, so if I sign Píres he will not play and it just adds to the wage bill.
"I like Píres and we are proud that every player who plays for us likes to come back because it was a special experience in their lives."
