Gaël Clichy was pleased Arsenal could respond to their Carling Cup final defeat with a 5-0 thrashing of Leyton Orient on Wednesday night.
Clichy scored only his second goal for Arsenal in the game, adding to goals from Marouane Chamakh and Nicklas Bendtner at the Emirates Stadium.
The FA Cup 5th round replay came just days after the Gunners lost to Birmingham City at Wembley, and the Frenchman admits the players should have done better on the day to win the trophy.
He said: "First of all, on behalf of all the players we want to say sorry to the fans because it was a trophy we should have won and could have won [as] everyone would agree that Arsenal is a better side than Birmingham.
"But on the day maybe they deserved it a bit more than us because they played as a team whilst we held to the ball too much. Of course we made some mistakes but that is why you have to take your chance at the start."
On the crushing win against Orient, Clichy added: "We had to win. The first leg was a draw in the last minute so we knew that here, at the Emirates, was going to be easier. It was a good night, some players played when they usually don't so everyone is happy and we can now focus on Saturday's big game.
"My goal is even better than Nicklas' hat-trick, it's my second goal in I don't know how many games so I guess this goal is more important than [his] hat-trick [but] I'm really happy for him, the team and of course myself."
