The Verminator set for return

Defender Thomas Vermaelen is set to return in a reserves team fixture on Thursday.

The Belgian captain has been out for about eight months with an Achilles injury.

Vermaelen has seen his season ruined by the problem but he is now set to make an expected return against Manchester United's second-string.

It is thought that the 25-year-old may even make an appearance before the end of the season, when there is still a Champions League spot to retain.
