Lauren: Win at St James' would lift confidence

Lauren believes it is important for Arsenal to get a win against Newcastle at St James' Park this weekend to boost the team's confidence going into away games.

The right-back, who will be switched to left-back for this game, admits Arsenal have really struggled away from home and have not been at their best in general this season.

"At the moment we are not playing our best football, we know that," he told Sky Sports News.

"We've been fantastic over the years in The Premiership, but it's very difficult to stay on top every year.

"We've been so good for all those years and at the moment we're not at our best."

However, the Cameroon international believes this Arsenal squad has the quality to improve, and is hoping a win up North this weekend can start that improvement away from home.

"We know we've got quality in this team," he insisted.

"There are some young players coming through with incredible ability, so I hope they get better and help the team improve.

"We used to have such a fantastic record because we managed to pick up three points in most of our away games,

"This week we have been feeling uncomfortable because we've had some defeats away from home.

"If we manage to win against Newcastle then it will lift our confidence for away games.

"We know how important the spell of December and January is so we have to start from now, to win more games and be more confident in the next month."
