Interesting and bullish remarks from Atletico boss Diego Simeone, who seemed unperturbed on the subject of Arsenal’s alleged interest in Allesio Cerci. The Italian forward has not featured much for Simeone’s side and has been linked with Arsenal for several months now.

Simeone was quick to point out that his side must be doing something right if players’ are attracting interest despite not playing much.

“I read in the newspapers that Manchester United, Inter and Arsenal want Cerci and I haven’t given him the chance to play, so evidently we are a great team” he said.

“We managed to sell Demichelis, even though he hadn’t played a game for us, and Cerci, who hasn’t played much either, is being tracked by three extraordinary teams.”

Very Mourinho-esque of Simeone and adds further fuel to the rumours of Arsenal’s pursuit of the player. Cerci’s breakthrough came  in the last two years while at Torino where he scored 21 goals in 71 league appearances for the club. Before that, he impressed with Fiorentina, but has found life in Spain difficult this season managing just three apearances.

I still don’t think there is much in this rumour, but Simeone’s comments are humorous yet accurate nonetheless. I would be just as surprised as he is if this transfer went through to be honest and I think it calls into question yet again Wenger’s ambition.

That is an article for another day I’m afraid, but supposing Arsenal are indeed after Cerci, would we gooners be satisfied with this? Simeone has a point, why should Arsenal settle for second choice players? If he isn’t good enough to play for Atletico, what makes him good enough to play for Arsenal?

Again, I hope this rumour is untrue therefore making my inqueries void and invalid. If the rumour is true however, Wenger should take Simeone’s comments to heart and really reconsider.
