Big win for Arsenal today, and now big news as well, as Arsene Wenger confirmed  the deal to bring Villarreal defender Gabriel Paulista to Arsenal is near completion. Reports have intimated as much for quite some time now but Wenger’s comments after today’s match the Amex are the biggest indication yet. Yesterday it was Villarreal manager Marcelino who confirmed the rumours, but Wenger’s comments immediately following today’s match took it a step further, going as far as to say the deal could be wrapped up tomorrow.

Fantastic news for Arsenal, and a good day to be a gooner! Speaking to BT Sports, Wenger confirmed the deal and also praised his soon to be new signing, saying he has the attributes to succeed in England’s top flight.

“The reports are accurate,” he said. “The move is very, very, very close.”

“It will probably be tomorrow.” He continued: “He is a defender, can play on the flanks as well, tall, pacey and strong in the challenges.”

“He has a good chance to adapt to English football. I see in him good potential and he can be a good addition to the squad.”

“It could be done before the draw tomorrow.”

The deal is said to be worth around £15million with Joel Campbell going the other direction on loan.

Absolutely outstanding news for us gooners. Couldn’t really ask for more at this moment in time. I really rate Paulista, and if we are lucky, he won’t be the last in the window. COYG!
