Spanish right-back Hector Bellerin has, regrettably, been repeatedly linked with a move away from the club in recent weeks, however, Arsene Wenger has the perfect replacement waiting in the wings, says Alex Chambers.

Hector Bellerin has been an unqualified success since Arsene Wenger decided to promote the young right back to the first team. Over the past two seasons, he has flourished into one of the most promising full backs around, terrifying the opposition with his electrifying pace and displaying an infectious enthusiasm to get stuck into all facets of his right back role.

Arsenal’s recent failed attempts to land the title, or to achieve Champions League success, have led to the club continually losing their best players.

If rumours are to be believed, then it looks like it could be the same sorry story with Bellerin, with Pep Guardiola and the full back’s old club Barcelona sniffing around.

Monaco and newly-capped France defender Djibril Sidibe is reportedly on Wenger’s shortlist, should Bellerin decide to jump-ship.

However, Carl Jenkinson should be returning to full fitness in the coming weeks and it’s time the Englishman is given the chance to prove himself at Arsenal.

The former Charlton youth player has already made over 30 appearances for The Gunners, since joining in 2011, but he is yet to have a consistent run in the side.

The two year loan spell he spent at West Ham was incredibly beneficial and Jenkinson proved that he was up to Premier League standard on a weekly basis. He may not be as quick as Bellerin, you’d be hard-pushed to find a player around who is, but the 24-year-old is excellent going forward and the defensive side of his game is very solid.

This man could be just what Wenger needs.

It would be a bitter blow – not only to Arsene Wenger’s plans this season, but to Arsenal’s long term aspirations – if Bellerin was to leave for Manchester City or Barcelona. It would be a symbol of the lack of progress the club has made during the last decade of the legendary managers tenure.

All would not be lost however, and if push came to shove, then Jenkinson is ready and eager to prove he has the quality to be an Arsenal player.
