Jose Mourinho was uncharacteristically reverent in regards to Petr Cech’s transfer to Arsenal. While mostly everyone would have expected some kind of brash barb aimed at Arsenal or Arsene Wenger, Mourinho took the high road and thanked Cech for his contribution to Chelsea.

Despite previously stating that he will never okay with the deal if it were solely up to him, he offered his reflection saying he respects Cech’s ambition to continue playing regular first team football and thanked the player for all he has done at the club.

Mourinho’s comments did the rounds in all major sources including the Daily Star.

“Petr has been a great servant for Chelsea for 11 years and helped this club to win almost everything there is to win,” Mourinho said.”

“I always said I wanted him to stay but I understand Petr needed to move on to play first team football every week. Sometimes you have to respect the wishes of someone who has earned so much respect with his service and actions for your club.”

In less surprising news, Mourinho reserved some praise for his club, lauding the Chelsea heirarchy for making such a landmark decision.

“I support the owner’s decision to honour the player in this way. It is very rare in football to make a decision like this and for that reason I am proud of my club for making it.”

“There are not many clubs in the world big enough to be able to make that decision. Petr’s success at this club will always to be remembered and we thank him for everything he did.”

It is not often a gooner will say this, but fair play to Mourinho and Chelsea for granting Cech’s wishes. Very classy move. Did I say that out loud?
