Frank Lampard has heaped praised on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after the latter’s impressive showing against San Marino. Lampard said he has been impressed with the Ox and thinks he could end up in a central midfield role. Such praise is nothing to sneeze at coming from one of the best central midfielders England and the world has ever seen. Chambo came on as sub against San Marino and looked lively. He set up Welbeck’s goal and could have had one of his own. Lampard thinks Chamberlain’s pace and direct running will cause defenses all sorts of problems and feels he could end up centrally so he can see more of the ball.  Speaking to Sky Sports, Lampard said this:

“I think The Ox’s career, at times, has been broken up by injury. Going into the World Cup he was looking very sharp and would have been prominent and played a lot of games, but he got injured.”

“At Arsenal, he tends to get injured at times but when he gets on runs of form and plays like he did against San Marino he has got the pace and the ability on the ball. When you see someone like him coming into a game, he’ll have a few shots and arrive in the box and it all changes and goes up a notch.”

He continued.

“I quite like him centrally because he can get more on the ball centrally. In those areas he is really dangerous because he is running at centre-halves and back fours from a central position. He is going to have to work on his game defensively then because against good teams he is going to have to make sure he does the other work. He has got the fitness levels and will learn that game.”

“I like him there. Arsene Wenger has flirted with putting him there and that could be a long-term role for him.”

I agree with Lampard and I as well like Chambo in a central position. Wenger said previously that he thinks the Ox will end up there in the long run but has yet to play him in that position this season. I think Chambo is brilliant in central midfield (ask Bayern Munich), bursting forward out of midfield with pace and power. He is a real handful for any back line and he doesn’t hesitate to have a shot on goal which Arsenal sometimes lacks.

I said before that Oxlade is a player I feel must always play. We don’t possess many more players (Sanchez aside) with his direct running and willingness to run at the back line and that is crucial to our style of play. I’m hoping Wenger will consider it now that Ozil has gone down as well as Ramsey and Arteta, and if Oxlade can stay fit he can become a very important player for us.

Ox is is exactly what Ozil is not; strong and heavy work .rate. Playing him now with Sanchez will weaken defences. Up the gunners
