Following yesterday’s Community Shield clash, Chelsea defender Gary Cahill said that though he believes Chelsea were the better team, he lauded Arsenal for their performance and tips Wenger’s army to challenge for the league title this season.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s sensational strike lifted Arsenal past the Blues, and Cahill that it was that sole moment which made the difference.

“They’ve started well, they’ve got a good squad and I think they’ll be one of many pushing at the top this season,” said Cahill in a Sky Sports report.

“Let’s be fair, the game’s been won on a piece of individual play to smash it in the top corner, but chance-wise we had the majority of the play.”

“I think in terms of possession we had the majority of the game but it’s the scoreline that matters and we’re disappointed with that.”

Fair play to Cahill for giving credit when due and the lads should be raring to go. It is not often you hear a direct rival tip their hats to you, and though a club as big as Arsenal won’t need validation from anyone, it should go some way to instilling confidence.

Getting the win yesterday was a weight lifted off of our shoulders and should provide the catalyst needed to really push on next weekend.
