Chelsea stars Nemanja Matic and Branislav Ivanovic recently voiced their views on Petr Cech’s move to Arsenal. Cech of course joined the gunners nearly a month ago, but his presence is still sorely missed at Chelsea apparently.

As ESPN reported, Both Matic and Ivanovic hailed Cech as a great man on and off the pitch, and say they respect Cech’s wishes to play regular football although they rue his decision to join rivals Arsenal.

“Petr is a great guy and a great keeper. It is going to be a very important signing for them,” Matic said. “But I am not happy because of that. We know that he is very professional. He is one of the best keepers and I hope this season he does not perform as he did here for 10-11 years.”

“I am happy for him because he gets to stay in London, which for him and his family was very important. I wish him all the best.”

Ivanovic was equally as candid, thanking Cech for his contribution to Chelsea but wishing his former teammate not so good luck at Arsenal.

“This is football, he wanted to play,” he said. “I can say only 500 times thank you to him — he gave us so much pleasure to enjoy the history of the club, winning trophies.”

“As a person we will miss him in the changing room. His decision was he wanted to play and I wish him all the best personally. Just try not to win any trophies!”

Priceless reactions really, and we gooners wish they came forward with these earlier. It goes to show how huge this signing really is regardless of what the naysayers think (I’m talking to you David James and Peter Shilton).

He showed in the Barclays Asia Trophy glimpses of how important he will be, and we can’t wait to see what the season ahead holds.
