Arsenal’s all-time record goalscorer Thierry Henry has heaped praise upon Gunners forward Theo Walcott, backing the 26-year-old to lead England’s line during the international break.

Walcott has been in fine form recently, grabbing two goals and three assists in his last three games, whilst he scored a brace for England off the bench against San Marino last month.

Quoted in The Daily Mirror, Henry stated that Walcott has to start for England on his current form and praised the former Southampton man.

“He wasn’t selfish. He set up goals, held up the ball, showed a great awareness for Alexis Sanchez’s first assist in the game.”

“He didn’t score but he was a threat. There was desire, two assists and the crowd loved it.”

“With what he did against United and the way he has been answering the call recently – if he can play like that every weekend he has to start.”

Walcott has excelled over the past month after a slow start to the season, where it was clear he was getting used to the added pressure of being Arsenal’s sole striker.

However, the long-serving Arsenal man has fought hard to secure his role and is now grabbing the chance with both hands; looking unlikely to be dislodged from the Arsenal line-up anytime soon.
