Founded in 1863, Stoke City have the distinction of being the oldest football club currently plying their trade in the English Premier League. Nicknamed The Potters in reference to Stoke’s famous potteries, they were a force to be reckoned with in Europe during the mid 1970s. Since their promotion to the Premier League, Stoke have developed a reputation for being tough to break down at home and they are credited with bringing the long-throw back in vogue.
