Arsenal starlet Alex Iwobi has been regarded very highly by youth coach Andries Jonker, who has stated the Nigerian international is the ‘perfect player’ to manage.

Iwobi enjoyed a successful season season last term captaining the Gunners youth league side and the 19-year-old has broken into the first-team this season, making eight appearances for Arsenal across all competitions.

Jonker, who managed Iwobi last season, believes he deserves all the success coming his way and praised the youngster highly when speaking to Arsenal’s official website.

“Every now and then we have had players who have attracted attention but I think the one who has succeeded most is Alex Iwobi, who is with the first team now,”

“Alex is incredibly motivated, dedicated, willing to work and open to listening. He is always trying to improve himself. That makes him a perfect player because, with the talent he has already, he can continue to develop.”

“That’s what’s happening at the moment. He played at home against Bayern Munich, made two very nice goals and was great for the team. Since then we haven’t seen him because he’s with the first team and that’s what it’s all about.”

Iwobi has competed for regular football amongst the senior players this season, going toe-to-toe with the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Joel Campbell and Theo Walcott.

Although he’s not yet regarded as a starter, Iwobi’s progression has been great to see and he will only continue to grow in the coming months.
