Arsenal have signed former Chelsea centre-back Zack Medley, the club have confirmed.

The 16-year-old left the Bridge in October and after a trial with the Blues’ London rivals was offered a scholarship deal by Arsenal.

Medley has represented England Under 16’s and now becomes Arsenal’s 12th scholarship intake of the year.

The towering centre-half, who was released by the west London outfit in October, had been with the club since he was just eight.

Medley’s release from Chelsea to join the Gunners will likely turn out to be a blessing in disguise. Arsene Wenger has a track record of developing youngsters while youth players rarely breach The Blues first team.

Only Ruben Loftus-Cheek has been a bit-part member of the Chelsea first team in recent years while Jack Wilshere, Hector Bellerin and Alex Iwobi are all products of the Arsenal academy.
