Football rumours are funny thing aren’t they? Rumoured Arsenal target Mats Hummels has allegedly indicated that he would prefer to join our lads instead of United. Realistically, I will take this like I take all rumours, with a grain of salt.

You can’t believe everything you read, but let’s just have some fun and suppose Hummels did indeed indicate this and warmed the hearts of gooners worldwide.

I particularly rate Hummels and think he is a World class centre halve. If this were a “potential gooner” piece, his game changer portion would receive an emphatic and unequivocal YES. What a signing that would be! Hummels would challenge for a spot in the XI let alone provide backup and his addition would add real strength to our struggling backline.

The player is known to be unsettled at Dortmund so there may well be some truth to these reports.

I wouldn’t hesitate to spend the rumoured £30m for Hummels as I think that is a more than reasonable price for the one of the planet’s best defenders. You must pay premium money for premium talent, and at 25 Hummels is a long term investment.

Beside the fact he is cup tied (he also has a slight foot injury, but it is minor and won’t keep him out long), I don’t see anything to deter Wenger from going for this signing. He has all the qualities to be a top, top defender in the league.
