Surprising remarks from England legend Peter Shilton, who today claim Petr Cech may struggle at the Emirates. The most capped man in England history says an aging Cech may find it difficult to reproduce his Chelsea form in North London.

Shilton risks the wrath of Arsenal fans by suggesting the back four may not provide the cover Cech is used to. Shilton was speaking to TalkSport, as reported by the Daily Star, and had this to say:

“He is not getting any younger. I have always rated him, he is a top quality good goalkeeper, but I’ve just thought on a few occasions that when Chelsea struggled, he struggled a bit sometimes.”

“He was playing behind a really good defence at Chelsea and that gives you confidence week in, week out but if he doesn’t get that cover we will see if he has that top quality and that confidence to perform.”

I’d have to disagree with Shilton. For me, Cech has only lost a partial step because of the severe head injury, not his age. 33 is the prime age for a goalkeeper and Cech is far from finished at the highest level. Only a handful of goalkeepers in the world deserve to mentioned in the same breath at Cech and he will be a fantastic addition to the side.

He has played and more importantly won in the Premier League for 11 seasons, so to suggest he will struggle now is a bit silly really.

Peter Shilton played football long time ago , now football has changed in its speed and laws . Shilton now is neither a player nor a manger and we should take his judgement with a pinch of salt . We have to question his motive why is he saying this just now?
