Former Manchester United man Mickey Gray believes Arsenal outcast Jack Wilshere would be the perfect fit in Jose Mourinho’s side, he told TalkSport.

The England international, who missed out again in the Three Lions squad in the latest call-ups, is spending the season on-loan with Bournemouth following restricted first-team opportunities at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal still value Wilshere highly but their midfield is already well stocked with talent, boasting the likes of Granit Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny, Aaron Ramsey, Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin, which makes things difficult for Wilshere to earn chances.

On top of that, uncertainty on the midfielder’s future is rising as Wilshere has less than 18 months remaining on his contract and could leave on a free transfer in the summer of 2018- which may push Arsenal towards a sale at the end of the season.

Should he become available, Gray believes Wilshere would thrive at Manchester United or at Manchester City with Pep Guardiola. Speaking to TalkSport, he said:

‘Jack Wilshere is good enough to play in any of those top six sides. He’s played at the highest level internationally, he’s played Champions League football and he doesn’t ever really let anyone down when he plays.’

‘If you want to buy English this summer, where else do you go? I think he’s the perfect fit for one of the Manchester sides. You’re buying a 25-year-old player, who had experience but still has his best years ahead of him. He’s still got another seven or eight years.’

‘I think he’d be at a decent price. If you have to go and pay £25m or £30m for Jack Wilshere, that’s still a bargain!’
