We spoke exclusively to Arsenal legend Sol Campbell at the launch of Europcar’s Fans Of The Season campaign, where he backed the Gunners to win the Premier League this season.

Since Campbell and the ‘Invincibles’ squad lifted the trophy in 2004, Arsenal have not succeeded in getting their hands back on the biggest trophy in English football.

However, Campbell told us that he believes the FA Cup successes in the past two seasons have given Arsenal a boost but attributed the confidence to another factor shown by the Gunners in 2015. He said:

“The FA Cup was the boost for the fans but what impressed me was the back end of last season in the Premiership. That gave me confidence and it should have given them confidence, it wasn’t so much the FA Cup.”

“The FA Cup is great, the fans love it and the player’s love it, but it’s almost like a boost. What really takes you to the next level is how Arsenal performed in the last ten games of last season, that’s what gives them hope for the league title.”

Campbell played in one of the most historic Arsenal teams during the 2003/04 season, part of the side that went 49-games unbeaten, but he would have loved to have played with one current Arsenal star.

“I’d love to have had Alexis Sanchez in the Invincibles squad. His work-rate, his quickness, skill, shooting ability. He’s definitely one of the best players in the Premier League. He’s the first player in a long long time who’s flew in and bang, he’s got right in there.”
