We spoke exclusively to Arsenal legend Sol Campbell at the launch of Europcar’s Fans Of The Season campaign at the Emirates Stadium today, where he had an interesting reveal.

Playing in one of the most successful and historic Arsenal side’s, the ‘Invincibles’ of 2003/04, Campbell stated he would have loved that side to have played at Arsenal’s new home of football.

“I wish we had this Emirates Stadium! We would have been very well suited, big pitch and the players and teams we had visiting sat back. We still managed to break them down, another two metres here and there would have been incredible.”

“I think it takes time for the history, history is all about winning. There’s been some magical games and the FA Cup’s great but it’s played at Wembley, you need the history here. Winning the Premiership would be ideal.”

“You need that and you need more games, more magical moments. It takes time, it might have to be 30-40 years. 10 years is not old in anything, especially in football terms, but everyone’s going about it the right way.”

Campbell does miss factors of Highbury though, which was home to Arsenal from 1916 to 2006, and has suggested one change he would make to the Emirates.

“I miss the marbles at Highbury. I would have created something else, I would have created that and a monument to marble halls and brought it here. Brand new place but an old-style entrance.”
