Talented young Gunner Alex Iwobi looks set to go out on loan this month to get some first team football.

The 19-year-old forward, nephew of Nigerian legend Jay Jay Okocha, was outstanding when given his chance in the Emirates Cup in preseason, bagging a goal and looking right at home amongst our senior stars in a 6-0 win over Lyon.

It’s widely thought that he was wanted by numerous clubs on loan in the summer. However, Arsene was reluctant to let him go so he could train with the first team squad and presumably look to give him a chance in cup competitions.

With such fierce competition and talent in the squad, Iwobi has made the bench, however, is still waiting his first competitive senior appearance. He is currently training with the Nigeria squad, and with his international career taking off has signalled his intent to seek regular games on loan to develop.

Goal exclusively report the news, with the player’s father Chuka Iwobi confirming his son is set to leave on a temporary basis imminently.

“A few clubs in the United Kingdom and abroad have approached Arsenal to take Alex on loan but Arsene Wenger wants him to be with the first team because he did very well in pre-season,”

“Alex’s preferred option at this stage is to go on loan to gain first team experience and come back to Arsenal later on to fight for a place.”

“Hopefully a loan move would have been sorted out by the time Alex comes back from international duties.”

Iwobi is an exciting player for the future and would benefit greatly from joining the ranks of many of our other talented players out on loan like Gedion Zelalem, Carl Jenkinson, Chuka Akpom, Serge Gnabry and Yaya Sanogo. He will look to emulate the likes of Jack Wilshere, Joel Campbell and Francis Coquelin, who went in search of games and forced their way into Arsene Wenger’s plans.
