Gooners don’t need me to remind them how much we despise Jose Mourinho. From his arrogance to his subtle (and not so subtle) little digs  at opponents, to his smug little smile. We just hate him and everything he stands for. Credit where credit is due, he is an exceptional manager and tactician but if there is anyone who gets under our skin its Jose. I don’t think we could ever hate him as much as we hate Fergie, but Mourinho as far I’m concerned is making considerable ground on the Scot. I could write a book on how Mourinho winds us up, but I’ll keep to just five reasons.

  1.  Mind games

We hate Mourinho’s mind games. He has a way of sending little subliminal messages and hiding little digs in his words and it is ridiculously annoying. He is far from shy and not afraid to let his opinion be known most of the time, so it is a mystery as to why he employ these little tricks. The whole “small horse” theme he tried last season was nothing less than irritating.

2. Arrogance

Just one cringe-worthy quote will sum up this point; “please don’t call me arrogant, but I am the European champion and I think I’m the special one.” I will never forget it, I will always hate it and hate him for uttering it. As I mentioned in the preface, we just can’t stand the man’s arrogance. As much as we respect a winner and a formidable opponent, we can’t stand hearing about it afterwards. He celebrates like a mad man, running on the pitch and sliding on his knees hysterically, but would be livid if an opposing manager does something similar. The man’s pride is going to be his downfall one day.

3. Smug

Not only does he enjoy winding people up, he enjoys knowing that he winds people up. In fact, if he were to read this, he would probably be grinning from ear to ear. We will never forget his “specialist in failure” comments, and we can only add that to a long list of insults against other managers in his years. He called Pellegrini “pellegrino” (as if he didn’t know his name) and once branded West Ham’s style of play as “18th century football” for parking the bus. A little hypocritical, as he is the pioneer of parking the bus. In fact it is he who coined the phrase “parking the bus.”

4. Moaning

Mourinho loves to moan when he doesn’t get his way. He moans about tactics used against him, he moans about the referee, he moans about the schedule. He once accused referee Anders Frisk of being in Barcelona’s favor after Chelsea were beaten in the Champions League. Frisk began receiving death threats and eventually resigned. To be fair, it would be harsh to blame that on Mourinho, but the moaning was childlike. We all face the same difficulties Jose, learn to take a loss the same way you take a win.

5. Hypocritical

We already touched on the 18th century football and parking the bus comments, but what about the several other occasions where Mourinho has contradicted himself? Remember how he used to vehemently defend Didier Drogba’s diving? Saying he wasn’t diving and he that the player was targeted unfairly. Miraculously a year later while coaching Inter, he had the nerve to utter this; “I am no longer Chelsea coach and I do not have to defend them any more, so I think it is correct if I say Drogba is a diver.” Astonishing. The same Drogba that Mourinho wrote an emotional foreword for in his autobiography and the same Drogba he would eventually re sign at Chelsea? Talk about two-faced.
