If you believe what you hear on the grapvine right now, Arsenal are reportedly ready to forget Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain in favour of a swoop for Inter Milan captain Mauro Icardi.

Metro and the Daily Star led the way yesterday while suggesting the Argentine international striker could be set to meet with Arsenal representatives next week.

Not in the class of Gonzalo Higuain or Karim Benzema, Icardi is still revered as a top striker and certainly one that could do a job at Emirates Stadium.

Just 23-years-old too, the Inter striker certainly fits into that category of being an Arsene Wenger-type signing given his age and it will be interesting to see what unfolds in the next few weeks.

Having scored 47 goals in 88 Serie A appearances so far, you must admit that’s a pretty handsome record given the quality of defending over in Italy and still yet to embark on the peak years of his career, you can see why he’s an appealing prospect.

According to the report from the Daily Star, Inter are still desperate to keep the striker at the San Siro but are still apparently willing to conduct talks with the Gunners.

In the meantime, we’ve listed FIVE things you might not know about the player himself, Mauro Icardi.
