Bournemouth striker Benik Afobe says he has nothing to prove against Arsenal this weekend, as he faces his former employers for the first time.

Afobe joined Arsenal as an eight-year-old but didn’t quite make the cut in the Gunners talented squad, eventually leaving to join Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2015 after some successful stints out on-loan.

In January he became Bournemouth’s record-signing when the Cherries paid £9m to give him his chance in the Premier League, which he has grabbed by the horns having scored three goals in three appearances for his new side.

Ahead of this weekend’s crucial game in the Premier League, where Arsenal are looking to end a run of four games without a win and close the ground on the sides ahead of him, Afobe has stated he has nothing to prove.

“I don’t hold any grudges. I’ve already scored three goals in my last three games so I’ve got nothing to prove to Arsenal. It was their decision to sell me and I’ve moved on. It’s been years now. I’ve got great friends there, I’ve got nothing bad to say about them as a club. I would’ve liked to have got my chance but it didn’t happen.”

“That’s not how life works. Not everything can go your way. I believe I would’ve scored goals for them, but I’m not there anymore and I don’t hold any grudges.”

Arsenal enter the game five points behind leaders Leicester City, who have a crucial game with Manchester City tomorrow lunch-time, which means the Gunners are guaranteed to close the gap on at least one of the sides this weekend, should they secure a positive result.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, have enjoyed a successful maiden season in the top-flight but the threat of relegation still lingers, with the Cherries sat seven points above the drop-zone.
