You really need to give the stats a rest and use your powers of observation for once.

If you had actually ever bothered to watch Lukaku you'd know that his success is directly linked to his monstrous physical attributes which is why he's been able to put the numbers on the board from a very young age.

Does one fork out 100M on a player who is so very reliant on those physical attributes? What happens when injuries strike? Or as he ages? My overall point is that it's worrying when the ceiling of a player is directly related to whether or not they're able to improve in a physical sense, something which becomes more difficult as the years go by.

Lukaku isn't a natural footballer. I'm not even going to reference that ridiculous clip of him trying to trap the ball because I can acknowledge that he's improved somewhat in that department. Nevertheless, if you watch him very closely you can see that it's still an unnatural and awkward action for him, one that he takes very great care in doing.

To me, Lukaku looks like a footballer who neglected the technical side of the game because he has always been able to dominate off of the back of his physical attributes.

He pretty much acknowledges this himself in the video with Carragher. Saying from a young age when he was much bigger than his peers he knew the Premier League would best suit his attributes (ie. Size and power). I dunno why some people wanted him here so much. He wouldn't have brought us forward like a more dynamic forward would. Give me the deal we got with Lacazette over this bozo (especially for the price) any day of the week.

Such cringe.:lol::lol: I'm getting serious second hand embarrassment here.
Imagine having these guys as the posterboys of your club, the cringe levels alone...

Thankfully we have Mesut with some random girl every once in a while, and Alexis looking at his dogs all dreamy.

Place whatever value on this you wish...

The guy is rather 1 dimensional when he plays but he can certainly bang them in.

Not averse to these specialist players that can only do one thing well. But wouldn't want him at Arsenal. We already have our own version anyway.

Much will depend on the way Mourinho uses him and how the team sets up. Only time will tell whether he's worth that incredible price tag.

The stone that the builders refuse
Pogba and Lukaku will destroy most of the non elite teams, could be enough for a title push.
If they couldn't do it with Ibra why could they do it with Lukaku....

He's good but enough to make the difference?, not sure.

Although Lukaku offers more threat on the counter than a lumbering Ibra did.

This is true, but one of the things I found interesting about the stat comparison I posted earlier was that 35-year-old Ibrahimovic covered more ground and had more sprints per 90 minutes than Lukaku. I'm honestly not sure what that means. It was surprising.

Don't get me wrong, I think Lukaku is a good player. I like him. He can score goals. But I don't think he's really any better than Giroud. He's just gotten more playing time, more chances and has been more the focal point of Everton's attack. If Mourinho uses him right, he'll score a lot of goals for United. But we'll see.

Stupid United, not just giving us 50MM for Oliver!

(In all seriousness, Lukaku will finish #1 or 2 in the top scorer race, ahead of Laca, and all this poo-pooing will look pretty silly)

Maybe. Then again, Giroud may go to Everton, take up Lukaku's role and score just as many. Lukaku may not get as many chances in Mourinho's less attack-minded system and won't score any more than Zlatan did. He is, after all, more of a Giroud than an Ibrahimovic. Creativity is not exactly his forte. He's more dependent on the system and the players around him to create for him.

There's problems with stats in what they don't include. For example 'number of sprints' without distance sprinted is useless. If one player has 10 sprints over 10m and another has 5 over 100m the one with 5 took the greater effort but the stats don't show it.

Distance ran is also pretty bogus because we know the likes of Fabregas and Özil cover tons of ground they just jog most of the time

Also this stat also falls down when a striker is ordered to play off the last defender. They won't cover much ground because you know they're playing in a small pocket of space.

Lukaku's sprints would be much quicker than Ibrahimovic's, which in turn maybe take up more energy. I tend to remember him as having a high workrate when I've watched him for WBA. But I imagine carrying around that absolute bull like physique will mean he won't have the greatest stamina in the world. There has to be trade off.

Because of his physique though he'll absolutely ragdoll defenders with duels and shoulder to shoulder contact.

Arsenal Quotes

I knew we were very different, that he (Ferguson) had a total hold over his club while at that time I was still more of a coach. I also recognised his huge qualities. He knew how to surround himself with the right people and didn't rest on his laurels when he was successful.
