I'd take him for £20m, he's a merc but he'd be a great Santi alternative.

Yeah I like the fact he has similar skills to Santi, although I think we can find a younger player with these skills. It would be a similar short-term signing to Arshavin, and Payet will probably be easier to shift in a couple of years to France or to China.

Is he a Cazorla alternative? Santi might get plowed by athletic midfielders but his defensive side is underrated.

Maybe not as good defensively, but he has similar skills on the ball and would allow us to live with high pressing teams. Outside of Cazorla and Wilshere we don't have a midfielder with the ability to turn with the ball.

Wouldn't be keen on Payet to be honest. He's nearly 30, would cost a hefty fee and also likely a ton in wages considering it will be his last big contract

When you take into account wages you could sign a younger player with more potential with a similar cost.

And to take that a step further why go for a 'younger player with more potential with a similar cost' as you have to pay a transfer fee. Why not keep playing Ramsey and hope he comes good? That's even cheaper!;)

Turning down proven, especially league proven, quality for a cheaper younger player with potential is why we've won nothing major in ages.

I'm sick of waiting for Wenger to find a deal, waiting for said player(s) to adapt to the English game, and waiting for players to reach their potential as we throw points and full season away all for the sake of a couple more million in the bank.

Because the problem is not the proven factor, it's that when things don't go well he becomes a cancer

Wenger wisely doesn't get near players like that

Payet came to the league and has been immense from day 1. He had a great Euro and could have gone loads of places, his "stock" has never been higher but he was sold the vision of helping WH move up into the Olympic stadium and help them battle with the big boys of England. Fast forward a few months and WH are closer to the bottom 4 than the top 4 so he wants out.

Honestly given his age and how poorly WH have performed this season I cant really blame him.

You could get a young player who is on a similar level to Payer AND not in decline but in fact improving for cheaper when you take into account Payer's fat wages (125k a week, probably going to get even more when he gets that new deal).

Buying Payer would just be a bad transfer when you take everything into account. He very likely peaked last season.

He's not on 125k a week. Most reliable ITKs put him at around £80k per week, with the 125k number including literally all of his (potential) bonuses as guaranteed payouts every week.

It'd be like saying Giroud is on £210k a week by factoring in his goal, appearance and yearly bonuses in his weekly wage.
