I don't see how that happens...
It's not in Cologne's best interest to do anything before the Euros.

Even the public German TV-Channel ZDF is writing and broadcasting about this story now:
http://fussball.zdf.de/ZDFsport/inhalt/ ... .html?dr=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
This makes it highly unlikely just to be silly rumour. They usually don't really bother about transfer gossip. I really hope this is going to happen!

But you just can't be 100% sure as it isn't done und dusted yet. It could all go horribly wrong.

I'd rather have Giorud or Suarez over Podolski, don't rate the guy and he seems really dumb to me in a way, idk. Hazard is wishlist-material...

Double-edged sword, though. If Podolski has a bad tournament, then Koln are stuck with a player whose value has diminished, is in the last year of his contract, and who doesn't seem interested in signing a new one. They may be tempted to cash in whilst an offer is on the table.
The question is...*is* there an offer on the table from Arsenal?

Bloody well hope so, it'll be like having a slightly less technical RVP with just as powerful a shot.

Everyone is assuming Podolski will play up front but my sense is that (assuming we really are buying him) Wenger favours his versatility in being able to play both up front and on the wings (like he often has done for Germany).

Yeah, Wengs does love a versatile player... he sees it as 2 for the price of 1...

Good point, but there's a reason why most clubs are willing to take that risk with top players. The scales of influence for a bad tourney versus a great one are vastly different. If Podolski has a bad tournament yes his price may drop a bit, but probably not that much, because he is still a quality player with a long body of work and would still be in demand.
But rightly or wrongly having a great tournament can have a far greater effect on driving up prices. Great tournaments make previously unknown players get signed to big clubs (Kleberson etc.), and for top and near top players increased their value tremendously (including marketing etc.)
I think it's a risk most clubs are easily willing to take because the benefits can be extraordinary, while the drawbacks are much smaller for a player who is already rated, even if he has a bad tourney. Club's that want/need him, won't write him off for a bad 3-7 games. Although I'll admit though they may not write him off, their interests may turn towards player(s) who had an unexpectedly good run, as an alternative.
And with Podolski in particular as you said he is in the last year of his contract and seems disinterested in staying..that already makes his value lower than it would be, so imo they don't stand to lose that much more for a bad touney, but can gain much more and add much to the price for a player who is going to leave in a year anyway, if he has a great run in the Euros.
To me its a risk clubs as they have shown are almost always willing to take when international tournaments come around, as they tend to hold their moves until their completion.

I'm happy with this as it shows we might be proactive. Hope hes not coming in to replace RVP though, as if he is we are officially a mid-table club. I personally am skeptical of Podolski as a player, as he flopped bad with Bayern, his one previous time playing for a big club, but I'm willing to give it a shot.
Suarez is just a developmental guy, he'll be like Park with potential, those of you thinking this affects that are overrating Suarez.
If we go all out and sign Podolski and either Hazard or Gotze and we're back.

I like the fact that Podolski is left footed. At the moment all our wingers are right footed.

I think we should be looking to sign Podolski for around 12.5m

I think Podolski could be just what we need, chance creation hasn't been an issue at all this season it's just that only one player can finish those chances.
It's like we're collecting the German national side, Mertesacker, Eisfeild, Podolski. Roll on Gotze

okay, so we have got these players as our 3 main attackers
rvp, gerv, walcott, ox, chamakh, park, supposingly at least one of three of ryo, afobe, campbell
unless chamakh/park are both shipped out, i dont see wenger buying any more than 1 striker/winger... and of course i hope rvp is not leaving...

Suarez or Giroud are signings that I'm interested in, particularly the latter but I'd take Lucas as well tbh, especially above what Arsh has been contributing.
Just hope we actually make serious moves this closed season.

Podolski as a ST/LW and an AM/LW/RW would be a good summer.

Well apparently Bild broke the news he'd agreed personal terms, and then it bounced around the net and everyone knows. But it seems a bit weird that he's doing this now, so early? But then I haven't really looked at transfer rumours, let alone Arsenal ones.

Imo this is very likely, same kind of "vibe" in germany about this story like when mert joined Arsenal.
Welcome Poldi to Arsenal.

I think Gotze would fit us better than Hazard anyway as he is an AM. Bit of German efficiency, 'ey! When reports were saying we were lining up bids for Podolski and Gotze maybe they were telling the truth!

It doesn't change anything. We have to replace Arshavin, Chamakh, Park, Benayoun and maybe Rosicky. What about Walcott? Did he sign a new contract or not?

how can we be talking to podolski while he is still under contract at koln? if we havent agreed a fee they would not aprrove us talking terms with him. rumor seems wrong.

Great signing for Arsenal.
The deal should be under £12,000,000 but anything over and I feel we've paid over the odds.
At the moment I am a bit underwhelmed by the signing of Podolski because I want better talents and more unique individuals rather than a standard German.
But I can see myself growing into the idea before next season and I can see him being a success especially on the European stage when we need steel and a never say die attitude in our attackers.
