Dutch Football 2011/2012

A bit late, but here's a very good Dutch Eredivisie preview (very elaborate, so I'll post the link):

http://www.insidefutbol.com/2010/08/06/ ... iew/28190/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Going great so far 1 match played and Feyenoord already 2 points clear of Ajax.

Unfortunately think they'll win the league.

Anyway any questions on Dutch football just post them here.

How do you rate Douglas, mate? I have seen him couple of times and looks like a real talent and someone with all the capabilities to become a world-class CB. Aerially good as well.

any talents coming through at ajax? other than erikson that is.

clockwork orange (Elite Member) on August 13th, 2010, 2:03 pm

I do like Douglas too. Amazed nobody signed him yet.

On Ajax, not ones that are close to breaking in their 1st team. Daley Blind & Rodney Sneijder (little brother of) could make it in the future.

Maybe Siem de Jong, who regularly gets playing time as AM/SS, but he's already 21.

Clockwork, what about that guy Miralem Sulejmani which West Ham failed to get a work permit for??

Is he any good.

Daley looks abit like his dad. How highly is Luc Castaignos rated in Holland? How big a part do you think he will play with Feyenoord this season?

Been years since I followed top flight dutch football but I might be subscribing to ESPN and I think they will show quite abit this season.

Rated Sulejmani very high before he moved to Ajax. He couldn't live up to his promise / transfer fee overthere (yet). Maybe a new club would help, a change of environment could be what he needs. Technically very gifted for sure, maybe it's mental problems (cope with more pressure), why he hasn't delivered at Ajax.

I rate Luc very high (he not only has the ability, but also has a cool head, he will not do any stupid things and is dedicated). Thought he was a class above all, other strikers at the U17 EC a year ago. Bit amazed/disappointed he got so little playing time last season, he'll get more playing time for sure this season.

I think PSV will win the league. PSV has Berg, Toivonen, Lens and Dzsudzsak. Ajax only has Suarez and El Hamdaoui. Great strikers, but if one of them is injured, Ajax has a problem. And that's the case with the whole squad. PSV's squad has more depth.

You could see it with AZ last year, for a small club who become champion, it's difficult to achieve something in the next season so I don't think they will be a title candidate. The same with AZ, who lost a lot of money through the DSB case. Feyenoord has a very young, but promising squad. I hope they win the battle for the 3th place in the league. Heerenveen is an outsider.

First foreign takeover in the Netherlands.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich behind recent Vitesse takeover

Georgian businessman Merab Jordania was said to have taken over Eredivisie outfit Vitesse earlier this week, but according to a report in Quote, it’s none other than Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich who is behind the deal.

The financial magazine claimed that Jordania is little more than a puppet for Abramovich, quoting an anonymous friend of the Russian, who reportedly stated: “De facto, it is Roman who has bought Vitesse.”

It has been suggested that players from Chelsea’s reserve and youth teams could soon be making their way to Arnhem, though young Dutchman Jeffrey Bruma will not be one of them.

“He is someone who could end up starting [for Chelsea] in the future,” the source revealed.

Vitesse are a club who have been plagued by financial difficulties over the last decade and have found times tougher during the recent global economic crisis. As a result, they’ve been forced to shed many first team players and have filled the squad with a number of youngsters.

Exactly why Jordania wanted to invest in an Eredivisie club has not been made clear, and has certainly cast something of a shadow over his recent successful takeover of the side who finished 14th in the Netherlands’ top flight last term.

Did anyone watch Ajax last night? I know they drew 1-1 in the Ukraine, just wondering how likely it is that they could go out, considering Dynamo Kiev were down to 10 men for half the game.

With this in mind.

Didn't watch the 1st leg, but I do think Dynamo still have a chance. They just shouldn't lose their head, this Ajax team is vulnerable.

On 'Dutch' goalies. AZ still want to get rid of Argentina goalie Romero & will not play him in Europe, so he will not be cup-tied.

Is Romero any good? More importantly, is he better than Schwarzer? I'll go back to dreaming in the meantime.

Do you reckon if Ajax fail to qualify that they will actively look to offload the players mentioned in that article, Clockwork? Are things that bad?
User avatar

clockwork orange (Elite Member) on August 18th, 2010, 4:05 pm

After I advised us to get Gomes, I'll not advise on another goalie.

Romero was top notch for AZ, until he got in the picture for Argentina. Made a few mistakes after that. Still think he's a class goalie, but probably would have to adapt a little to the EPL.

---

On Ajax: they're not doing well financially, but they still signed players (El Hamdaoui for example). So they still have some leighway. Having said that any financial disaster that hits them would be great. Problem is if they don't qualify for the CL, they'll play Europa League, so they will make some moeny in Europe anyway,

Too hard on yourself Clockwork - Gomes came good, kind of.

Is it all right for an Arsenal fan to also root for Ajax -- within their own league, that is?

Reasons Yes:

1. They practically invented modern football.

2. They almost singlehandedly lifted an entire country from footballing backwater to footballing power.

3. Bergkamp, Overmars, Kanu, Vermaelen -- all Ajax products who became Arsenal stars -- Vermaelen likely to join the first 3 as Arsenal legends.

4. Amsterdam is a great city.

Reasons No:

1. They knocked Arsenal out of their first European Cup run, in the 1972 quarterfinals.

2. Their arch-rivals are Feyenoord, who were the first club outside the British Isles to realize what ***** Spurs were -- and the first to fight back.

3. van Persie came from Feyenoord. Hence, "He comes from Rotterdam, he hates the Tottenham."

4. Martin Jol is their manager. For the moment.

5. There seems to be an Ajax-Spurs connection that has nothing to do with Jol. With Feyenoord hating Spurs, and also hating Ajax, and the supposed "Jewish heritage" of both Ajax and Spurs have led to some people supporting both.

6. The Amsterdam ArenA is widely considered one of the worst football venues in the world, with most fans preferring Feyenoord's De Kuip as the best stadium in the Netherlands.

7. Ajax produced Johan Cruijff, who became the godfather not just of Ajax, but also of Barcelona, and we now hate their guts. Or would, if they had any guts.

Looks like Toivonen is tearing the Dutch league apart. Remembered rating him highly few years ago in the u21s with Sweden

Haha yes as a Feyenoord/Arsenal supporter...it's easy. Both hate the Spurs. Both hate Martin Jol (Feyenoord's president once called him too fat to be a football manager).

But Feyenoord has more a connection with Liverpool. Most Feyenoord supporters are also Liverpool supporters. Rotterdam and Liverpool are both cities with a big harbor industry. Many supporters from the lower class. And at the moment, Kuyt is also a reason why many Feyenoord supporters love Liverpool. Kuyt is one of the most popular Feyenoord players ever. Working hard and doesn't complain. That's something that Feyenoord supporters love. They have the same mentality.

Van Persie is not popular at Feyenoord.

ok, so this thread needs new life..

PSV beating Feyenoord 9-0 (yes, that is a 9)

wtf?
User avatar

Kroket (Trusted Member) on October 24th, 2010, 3:28 pm

Ended 10-0, if you think Liverpool are doing badly then what about Feyenoord. In deep financial ****, near-bottom of the table and now their biggest defeat in club history. I feel for them, I really do.

Arai (Trusted Member) on October 24th, 2010, 3:31 pm

10-0..

Wow..

How come they can be so bad... :?

They lost nearly all their good players this summer, today they had seven players on the pitch who are still eligible for the -18. Also in Dutch football you're not allowed to have a negative financial balance and they're about 40 million in the red so they can't buy new players or afford free agents.

They're in serious danger of going down, if not bankrupcy.

Do they have any decent players we can poach?!
User avatar

Iloveyouarsenewenger (Forum Member) on October 24th, 2010, 9:33 pm

Afellay.

He has contract till May 2011, is not signing a new contract and will be sold in January.
User avatar

Gooner_Milton (Forum Member) on October 24th, 2010, 9:42 pm

Nah. Afellay plays for PSV, not Feyenoord.

So yeah. No players worth poaching from the latter. :P
User avatar

Iloveyouarsenewenger (Forum Member) on October 24th, 2010, 9:50 pm

My bad then. Still heard about Afellay being put on sale yesterday, so thought he might be in there.
User avatar

Gooner_Milton (Forum Member) on October 24th, 2010, 9:55 pm

He did have a hand in the game though, just on the other side!

2 assists and a goal.
User avatar

Armor for Sleep (Elite Member) on October 24th, 2010, 10:18 pm

If Affelay is going cheap, we should definitely look into it. Could do with another winger with real pace. Would be a fantastic bosman, if they hold onto him after January.
