He's in the London chest hospital, 5 minutes walk away from me. Must have been a heart attack. **** me, he's so lucky.

"Stable" means it's not getting worse for the moment, right?

No statement on his general state whatsoever, yet.
Hopefully he recovers from that.

Been an emotional evening, hearing his name sang by the Bolton fans, Spurs fans joining in with the applause, him being so young, a father and an ex-gooner.....

Just hope he makes a full recovery now and gets back playing football.

football is really hard sport when you play 3 times in week its very tired and maybe will cause you many problems, for that i hope from the people in FA fix the fixture.

It's actually called 'The London Chest Hospital'. It's in Bethnal Green E2,on Approach Road. St Barts is in central london, EC1, about 4 miles away.

Oh ok, I thought Bart's was the chest hospital, not important anyway.

that medical staff/the paramedics deserve some serious credit here. Sounds like he was beyond gone and they managed to pull him back.

thankfully turned out to be a good day because of them. Could've been a lot worse.

Will definitely be interesting to see where this goes from here. Sounds like he will absolutely survive at the very least - but still have yet to hear what his condition will be now. Will he still be able to play football? Will he still be able to even walk? Health complications can be such a fickle thing and I hope he'll be able to return to the game.

Thank f*ck for that! Hope he can make a full recovery and there are no lasting effects.

But even if he doesn't make it back to playing professional football the most important thing is that he's alive and well and with his family.

wait, it was reported as stable condition and now they are saying something about critically ill? which is it?
User avatar

The Jury (Forum Member) on March 17th, 2012, 10:36 pm

The elation of not hearing he'd passed away made you think he was out of the woods. Not quite, but being on the critical list is as good as we could have hoped, I suppose. He's still with us.

You can be critical but stable. We'll see.

i dont understand here guys is he critcally ill is something postive or something bad?
User avatar

Floating (Trusted Member) on March 17th, 2012, 10:40 pm

You can be in both both critical and stable. He is basically on the brink, but not getting any worse at the moment.

It was also confirmed as a heart attack.

Clrnc (Trusted Member) on March 17th, 2012, 11:10 pm

Generally, from what I understand Cardiac arrest patients chances of survival best depends on the first 6 mins after it happened. So I guess the paramedics did all the protocol and everything they could to save him, thankfully it helped. After the first 6 mins, chances of survival drops by 7% per minute iir c. Haven't been touching my paramedic book for quite awhile so forgive me if I got this wrong.

After you restart the heart, if the patient is stable which means breathing fine and showing normal heart rhythm, then it depends on the next 72 hours whether he pulls through and wake up. He is still critically ill because it can fail anytime and once it fails the 2nd time you basically have no hope. Really don't think he will be able to play football again, many people have retired from detected heart problems and attacks is on another level.
User avatar

The Jury (Forum Member) on March 17th, 2012, 11:28 pm

They were doing CPR for at least 20 minutes before they got him restarted again, Clrnc. I've been reading up, and that's about as long as the body can take. All sorts of problems can occur. I wish I never bothered now tbh. I've had my hopes raised and pissed on for a full recovery.
User avatar

Dokaka (Forum Member) on March 17th, 2012, 11:35 pm

I hope he's okay but he didn't breath for such a long time.. From what little medical knowledge I have that is sure to cause all sorts of brain damage.

As sad as it is I think people shouldn't expect he'll be able to play football again. It's a cruel, twisted situation and there's no way Muamba deserved this, and I genuinly hope he makes a full recovery, but the cynic in me can't see it happening.

I'm chuffed that he's breathing again though, for sure, and I hope he recovers enough to live a good life.
