Matías Suárez

A lot of the Belgian media think those rumours of us making a bid are pretty much BS.

This is from a user called PEPPI85 who sent me this because he's not a forum member.
Matias Suarez

Hi, I'm an Anderlecht fan (& an Arsenal fan off course). I'm not that active on this board, so I can't post in the transfer section. So here's some info for ya

All I can say is that Matias won't go cheap in the winter mercato. Anderlecht wants to win the Belgian league badly cause this year the winner gets straight into CL groupfase (and we don't need money after selling Lukaku, Boussoufa, Legear...). So we need all the quality players we have.
& Suarez is one of the 2 key players we just can't miss to become champions. (together with Lucas Biglia)

Our manager said something like 30 million for Suarez this transfer window, 15 in the summer.

Biglia has a agreement with the manager that if a big club comes by, he can leave for 8 million euros. (don't know if thats for now or the end off the season though) He would be a perfect back up (or replacement) for Song or Arteta & wants to make a step up to regain his place in the national team of Argentina.

But to go further on Suarez; He got bags of potential but he is a little shy & needs a lot of confidence. The problem was that our (shitty) trainer didn't believe 100% in him. but every time he played you could see his touch is superb. Now this season the trainer finally gave him the confidence he needed & he shows what he's capable off. Technically superb, very fast in Belgian terms (probably "fast" in the EPL),
His finishing is good, but on easy balls he sometimes is a little careless. He also became stronger in duels lately, but he can still progress on that one.

Sounds a real player, I hope we do go in for him properly.

So I wonder if reports that Suarez has 10m release clause are true.

More details here

However, he also confirmed to us that he has signed a not so “secret” pre contract with Arsenal for the summer.

He has also had discussions with Galatasaray, And Marseille, but money was never his main incentive. He, in fact said, that if money was an issue the Galatasaray offer was much better than the gunners’ one.

This pre contract favours Arsenal in many ways.

A) They have secured a player that they wanted

B) The gunners have the right to not take up the contract if the player either gets injured or has a dip in form to an unsatisfactory level

C) There are no clauses or rights for Anderlecht and the player to change their minds. So for example if Matias has an even better second half to the season, they can not ask for more money or higher salary or sell him to another club.

D) Plenty of time to apply for a work permit, however they are confident to get one through a panel.

Is the signing of pre-contracts even legal when the player is still under contract for more than six months?

Given the fact that we're supposed to believe he openly told the first journalist that asked whether he'd signed one, that's an interesting question

Philippe Auclair and others seem to have a high regard for this bloke , suprising because it does seem a bit fishy . Not fussed we will find out in the summer anyhoo.

So I guess he would be the one groomed to inherit the torch from RVP.

I've got a horrible feeling he's been signed to replace Robin rather than to play with him. We still need a forward this transfer window.

Javier Perez has spoken to Suarez himself, and it looks like we've agreed a pre-contract for around €7m.

After numerous tries during the day, eventually Pasion de Multitudes managed to get hold of him, just whenwe thought we were not going to be able to reach him Matias Suarez answered the phone.

He sounded very tired; he arrived in Turkey to Anderlecht winter camp on Friday, after 24 hours flight from Buenos Aires, and has been training since Saturday.

He has not done so at full speed with the rest of his team mates, but it sounded clear that he was not fully recovered from that odyssey.

However he was ready to talk, and very friendly, answering every question and not hiding behind the usual “no comment” we are used to hear from clubs, agents and players when a transfer is discussed.

He told us that he was very happy at Anderlecht, that the club has been magnificent with him since his arrival, but it was time to prove himself at the highest level.

To prove his loyalty to the club and to finish the job he and his team mates started in 2011, he will stay until the end of the season.

A panel for a work permit application is called in the following cases. “Where an application does not meet the published criteria, a club may request a panel to consider the player's skills and experience. In these cases the sports and entertainments team, UK Border Agency, will refer the club's evidence to an independent panel.

Where possible the club's supporting evidence will be sent to the governing bodies in advance for their consideration in order to allow an informed decision.

The panel will normally consist of representatives from the relevant football governing bodies together with up to three independent experts.

The panel's terms of reference are:

To consider whether the player is of the highest calibre.

To consider whether the player is able to contribute significantly to the development of the game at the top level in United Kingdom.

The panel will make a recommendation to the UK Border Agency whose decision will then be relayed to the club.

E) Gives Arsenal full use of the player who would have been cup tied for European competition.

He said he is really looking forward to coming to London, but he must concentrate on delivering for the club that has given him the opportunity to be where he is today.

The deal will not be officially announced until later on in the season, as there are still a few bits and pieces that need to be ironed out.

Arsenal wanted him to move during the January transfer window, but will be happy to have reached a compromise that sees them securing a player they have admired and watched many times last year.

Update: Jamie Sanderson (Young Guns) just told me:

It's a poor rumour. Anderlecht have denied any contact with any club. Won't get a permit anyway.
User avatar

spartandre217 (Forum Member) on January 11th, 2012, 1:27 am

He won't get one by virtue of him being young, Argentinean and plying his trade in Europe's second best cup competition?

Righto buddy...

It's probably not that concrete but saying that he just won't get one is patently false.

Case in point Chicarito.

He, we're doing our summer business six months on time.

Massive improvement

if Ryo can get a work permit, this guy will get one, especially with his Europa League experience

He might have/soon have a European passport. This is his 4th season in Belgium

"But to go further on Suarez; He got bags of potential but he is a little shy & needs a lot of confidence"

Do we really need another Chama? The great players have massive self belief and confidence. If this is true we shouldn't go anywhere near this guy.

Yep, sounds like another bottler with no balls to take responsibility. We need someone who is ready to be a star in this team now, consistently. Like Luis Suarez minus the racism, and a bit more clinical.

Flow (Forum Member) on January 12th, 2012, 6:50 pm

He won the Gouden Schoen. He has been chosen for the best footballer this year in the Jupiler Pro League (all his votes came from the second round, this season). He defeated the likes of Witsel, Courtois, De Bruyne and Biglia. I honestly didn't expect him to win.

MDGoonah41 (Forum Member) on January 12th, 2012, 8:53 pm

Yeah but apparently he has no balls, so he'd surely fail here

Yup, two people said it. It surely must be true.

Yeah Dailymail and about 3 other sources all saying he's been pre contract agreed for next season, Wenger got him in advance on the cheap, rumours of 7 Million Euro's.

Sounds liek a typical Wenger move to save on some cash.

The problem is that we need someone now, and if this is true then we can pretty much forget that happening unless we receive bids for Arshavin and Chamach, forcing Wenger to replace them.
I am so pessimistic about our chances of competing on 3 fronts. We have a genuine chance of making a strong challenge for the title imo as well as the cups, yet it looks like Wenger will settle to snatch 4th from Pool/Chelsea and hope for a decent showing in the ECL to justify his decisions to back the current squad and bring out his usual 'look at what our competitors have been spending' quote.

It's true, he is rather shy but that's not a big minus. You don't need only big personalities in your team, you need also guys who can sit on the bench without hurting their pride.
