I'm confident this signing will convince Robin to sign a new contract.

It will also mean that M'Vila, Vertonghen and Affelay will be knocking our door down, desperate to join the Nick Powell revolution

Didn't people say the same things about Chamberlain when we were linked with him?

Beksl (Forum Member) on June 4th, 2012, 12:24 am

And look how that panned out, Cesc and Nasri ****** off because of our lack of ambition.

Signing an 18 year old Striker from League 2 is not the answer RVP and we are looking for.

£10million?

I can think of a lot better players we can get for that.

Before opening this thread you could near enough predict exactly what the responses would be.

A talented player, but I'd rather the £10 million went on more established players for the minute. He looks a massive talent, but what our team need currently are mature players who can contribute now, and unfortunately that excludes Powell.

He'll be immense though.

Yep, and even when more established players were linked - Arteta, Cisse, Ba, Dempsey etc...

I'm up for Powell alongside a couple of senior signings - M'Vila, Giroud etc. We should be pushing hard for top young British talent at non premier league clubs.

GDeep (Forum Member) on June 4th, 2012, 2:15 am

He's a midfielder not a striker.

Wouldn't mind beating Manure for another signing.(Assuming that the reports are true)

As long as we're planning on dumping him in the reserves and not expecting him to be a contributor to the first team, then fine.

But for that price........

10m...

Spend it on someone who will improve our chance for a trophy in the next 3 years please. Do not want. You could sign a starting 11 player for that.

Same price as our big transfer window signing, Podolski.

This cannot be true.

With signings like this, it will be the only thing we will be beating Man u at :D

I'm fine with this, but it needs to come out of a separate "youth signings" budget, and not impact on the first team squad signings.

Vela (Forum Member) on June 4th, 2012, 10:42 am

Powell is talented normally plays in the number ten role behind a striker or out wide normally on the left. Dario Gradi might have a big say in where Powell goes. 10 Million is a bit overpriced though IMO, he's only done it at League Two so far.

I agree with this, only insofar as if it means we spend £10m on him and £50m on other signings not in the last couple of days of the transfer window in a blind panic.

So we have Wilshere, Ramsey, Ox and Aneke able to play as playmakers all under the age of 21 yet we'd bid 10m for aanother young British playmaker?

He looks good but we don't need him.

Yes I'm sure if you asked Cesc and Nasri they would tell you that the signing of Chamberlain was the reason they left.

Get a ******* grip.

I'd be delighted with this potential transfer if it didn't get in the way of our main summer business.

The kid looks like a wonderful prospect however our first team is in need of too much investment to be splashing £10m elsewhere.

I'd rather use that money to get a LB/DM/AM/RW/ST than this guy.

Sort out the major deficiencies in the first team first, then make these kind of signings. Not the other way round Arsène...

My feelings on this are;
1)We do have the 'home grown' thing to deal with
2)I like to think that we are pursuing our targets in parallel where possible and so pursuing a Nick Powell won't have a bearing on pursuing M'Vila, etc.
3)In today's market a 10 mill investment in the future(especially on a British player) isn't excessive if he's going to turn out that good (since at this age, it's really a matter of potential).
4) We'd better have more money in our transfer kitty :D

Mudi (Forum Member) on June 4th, 2012, 1:57 pm

If this mean we will ship Ramsey out, then definitely a must buy.

Otherwise, don't need him.
User avatar

truth_hurts (Forum Member) on June 4th, 2012, 2:35 pm

again how in the hell can we fit Wilshere, Coquellin, Ramsey, Frimpong, Powell?, Aneke, Gnabry, Chamberlain all into one squad? and still compete at the top level by buying players to play with or replace the likes of Song, Arteta, Diaby and Rosicky?

I agree Mudi if it meant selling a few young players i.e. Ramsey, Frimpong, Aneke then fair enough otherwise we need to stop this.

There is no way we're paying big money for the likes of Hazard, Mata, silva, Aguero, Suarez etc. Our best bet for the short to medium term is to go and buy these talented youngsters and develop them to that level.

Our usual 10-15m price range will buy us solid yet developed players who won't go on to be top players for us. At the same price we can get world class 18 year old talents. I hope we sign more Chamberlains, Ramseys and Powells for this reason. Yeah, it may take them a few years to produce but if you offered me Chamberlain last summer I would've passed on him for the same reason.

This is our only hope of getting world class players. Sign them young and develop them. Hopefully our recent British approach works better than our initial one where we signed foreigners.
