The Wish List

Özil is regularly putting in top class performances for club and country while Cesc doesn't. Haven't seen a top class performance from Cesc in a good while. World class players put in top class permances regularly, imo Cesc better find some form soon or he can't really be considered world class anymore.

Not only is what you're saying about Cesc untrue, the logic of this argument is completely warped.

Cesc had a far better tournament than Özil tbh, and that's with with Özil always playing 90 min and Cesc not.

Defensive midfielder - Javi Martinez (it's a wishlist), a realistic choice would be Yann M'Vila if not then Étienne Capoue.

Cesc's dribbling/close control is vastly underrated. Probably because he doesn't need to, and Oezil diafts to the wings more.

For God's sake, someone start a Messi vs Özil vs Fabregas thread in the Football forum or something.

Are people wishlisting Ozil, saying they'd prefer Messi or asking if Messi might be better than both?!

In terms if midfielders I want one to come in that can give our midfield more stability (M'Villa).

None of the above. They're having a pointless argument about something completely unrelated, prompted by the wishlisting of Fabregas by someone.

When people want a new right back it's not because Sagna isn't good enough, thus whether Debuchy is as good as Sagna is somewhat irrelevant. Sagna is getting on now, has been suffering from injuries so his understudy needs to be able to do a job... Carl Jenkinson is not ready for that job. And....

Debuchy > Jenkinson everyday of the week and twice on sundays.

In order for us to compete RB needs to be strengthened, either that or we have to hope that Sagna comes back and does not get any injuries.

Exactly. I don't doubt that Bacary Sagna is a world class right back and should be in the starting lineup, but rather that we need a backup since he is currently injured and will probably not be available for the first part of the season. Additionally, it's always good to have an understudy for Sagna since he is already 29 years old. Plus Mathieu Debuchy is a France international and extremely talented. He would cost around £7 Million.

This is the guy I want desperately for Arsenal to sign!

Javi Martinez - Athletic Bilbao
Image

He would provide Arsenal with so much quality in our midfield and he would link up very well with Arteta and Song. Do it Wenger!!!!

In what role = Martinez would replace either in the deeper / B2B roles.

Irish_Owen (Trusted Member) on June 30th, 2012, 11:52 pm

We've actually been linked with Javi recently, not that that counts for much, but I've read he's Barca bound sadly.

Martinez is supposedly being brought in as a CB, where I think he probably looks at his best. If he were to come here, he'd probably play in a more advanced role, I'd say.

He's being developed in that same role by Bielsa, just as Busquets and Macherano are at Barca.
In both instances it's about having a playmaker in defence as part of a 3142 / 343 set up.

I would play Javi Martinez as a defensive midfielder in front of the back four and play Alex Song as a central midfielder and Mikel Arteta to play as an attacking midfielder. Obviously, this would be so until we can have Jack Wilshire back in full form, where most definitely Alex Song or Mikel Arteta would have to be play a substitute role. Nonetheless, the importance of Javi Martinez is that he would provide Arsenal with a player that can play as Center Back and Defensive Midfielder, while being able to be a playmaker as well if needed. I think that in paper our starting lineup is already set up, but people forget how much injuries we have had in the past and that our starting lineup is rarely all fit at the same time. We will start this season with Bacary Sagna and Jack Wilshire out for injuries, so we need to have plenty of options to cover for them. I like Javi Martinez because of his versatility.

Agreed.

My initial thoughts were that AW is not tactically versatile enough to get the best out of Martinez because he is so flexible.

But on 2nd thought IF Martinez has the intelligence to go with his versatility & skill sets then IMO he could easily be another PV4 / Yaya Toure from midfield, or even a Libero if played from deep as we see in TV's forward forays.

The ONLY question mark being the other players being intelligent enough to work with him,
and on current form I have grave doubts concerning the FBs and midfield cover to HOLD their position which was responsible for it being possible for the player to go forward in the first instance.

A world class striker
A defensive midfielder
A playmaker
A back-up goalkeeper
A back-up right-back
A back-up centre back

... and Gazidis is taking a holiday. Priceless.

Had to laugh that Gazidis was on holiday. Fu*king priceless.

It's pathetic mate, why not go when the Euro's was on? He goes on holiday when the transfer window officially opens, what the hell is going on?!

Wish list?

I said it earlier in the summer, if Robin goes we need to replace him with a top striker, a Falcao/Cavani/Higuain. Looks like we've bought Giroud and Podolski to replace him (and Theo?) though so we best get used to it.

I hate our board, bring in Usmanov.

Never in a million years would this happen, but I'd love us to sign Falcao, M'Vila and Vidal:

---------------Szczesny
Sagna-Koscielny-Vermaelen(c)-Gibbs
------------------M'Vila
------------Vidal---Wilshere
Chamberlain-Falcao-Podolski

The one flaw in your plan is that you have left Chamakh out of the starting line up :D
