I often see Diaby mentioned in various threads as an option in the middle next season, so I thought I'd make this thread.
I rate Diaby, but his injuries worry my a lot. Having personally watched 2 player's career's ruined by injuris (Dyer, Ashton), I'm having serious doubts that Diaby may even be able to ever play regular football again.
The guy has hardly kicked a ball for something like 1½ years, yet many of you still consider him as an option in the middle, making me believe that at least some of you still think he'll come back.
Dean Ashton ended up having to retire and having his ankle welded together, and Dyer probably should have retired a long time ago.
So do you still believe Diaby will find his feet again and become a regular in the team, or do you want to get rid of him and use his wages on someone else?

IIRC there was speculation that he was going to be sold last summer but then got injured.
He's played 163 games for the club in total since signing in Jan'06 = 6 1/2 seasons.
He's just turned 26 & is in his peak years = it's no longer a question of improving performance but moreso one of can he regain his past capability after playing only 2 dozen games in total the last 2 seasons.
IMO he's NEVER cemented a place as a starter despite AW always using him when available,
and similarly I can only recall the Away CL game v Fenerbache as one where he excelled (when playing behind the striker).
Bottom line = sell.

DO WE HAVE A CHOICE WITH DIABY?
he has a contract till 2015 no club will buy or loan because of his injury concerns, we have got to have faith in him

Same choice as any other lost cause or deadwood = give them away if your priority is wages or squad positions.
Otherwise don't bother registering them for PL & CL & only use them in the domestic Cups as you don't need to register a squad.

No faith at all anymore. I've never been a big Diaby fan, whilst some on here are, because at the heart of it I don't see him having the commitment and dedication to be a proper starter - and that's before him making 0 starts this season due to injury.
And his interviews always rile me, a total lack of self awareness.

No. I hope if we are looking to get rid of midfielders at the club Diaby is in that list. He is of no use to us being constantly injured and having in turned in some shocking performances when fit. However, who will take him? I can't think of any club who would take the chance with him at his wage level.

I think we need to sell him he is 26 years old and he cant stay injury free. sell him and buy young midfield.

I agree that he hasn't been great the last few seasons. If you don't play games on a regular basis, you are not going to improve.
That's the case with Diaby. He is in his prime now and should be a well-developed player. When a player is 26 you shouldn't be talking about his potential, but he should be able to contribute significantly to the team.
Diaby has played a grand total of 24 games these last two seasons and the comparison with RVP is obvious here, but RVP still managed, despite his injuries, to hit 30-40 total games in a season.
Even though I feel sorry for Diaby about his injuries, well, how sorry can you feel for him earning 50K a week, we should just get rid of him.
No faith in him, at all.

I did have faith in him as a player but he is no longer a player, he is a patient!

Who's going to buy him?
If you were a manager would you take a chance on Diaby knowing his injury problems?

I'd give him this season. There are plenty other players ahead of him in the queue to leave IMO (Denilson, Fabianski, Mannone, Bendtner, Chamakh, Vela, Squillaci). That's a list of 7 players we need rid of, 8 if you add Arshavin.
I don't think we should be looking to sell him. If an offer comes in that we can't refuse (unlikely) then that's a different matter. There's a player in Diaby somewhere, he does have talent (although often frustrating to watch) I wouldn't dump him yet.

no. he has been and will only continue to be deadweight, very unfortunately through no fault of his own.
Even if he comes back, you gotta imagine, he's what now, 25-26 and he's missed at least 2 years of playing, essentially he's a 22-23 footballer.

We could sell Diaby and buy no one, it would make no difference when the guy never plays.
I think Diaby's squad place should be given to "punts on talent", Bischoff style. If one of them comes off, then it is a damn site better than what Diaby would bring to the bench.

Ive always been a fan, but tbh I can barely remember him playing a full agme of football for us.
Last season's debacle was a joke, how many failed returns did he have. And although I put a lot of this down to him strving to be fit for the NT and the Euro's it just isnt looking good at all.
Way we should play it? Give him pre-season to convince Arsène, if he comes through fine then give him a chance next season. If he starts pulling up, and suffering new injuries drop him from the 25 man squad and advise him that we cannot continue like this and he should look to find a new club.
No time for sentiment in this current re-shaping of the squad, if there ever was a time to cut loose the deadwood it is here and now.
Viva la revoultion!

Such an injury prone player, which is a shame because for all his brainless moments can the guy be a really effective player when fit and with some game time under his belt.
When he comes on the field he can really make a difference to our attacking game. What lets him down on the field is his casual way of playing our possession game, loses the ball far to easily which is a massive problem.
Lets hope we can get three months out of him this coming year, if we can he will be able to make a difference.

Not really, looking at the "Squad Analysis 2011/12" thread there are a fair few who mentio Diaby as one of your options in midfield, which is why I created this thread as it puzzled me.

Multiple accounts maybe?!
Seriously though a big big majority of Arsenal fans have given up on Diaby. I think its crazy to include him as part of our plans for next season, unfortunately injuries have taken their toll and he's not that good that we should keep him around in the hope he stays fit.

Pretty much have to agree with everyone else: I have little faith he can or will stay fit. And until he does, I don't consider him a bankable option of any sort.

Diaby drives me wild. To me, the purpose of a squad player is to have a player who is reliably ready and fit to step in whenever a player in the starting 11 is injured or needing a rest. What is the point in having a squad player who is never available to fill in? It's like keeping a spare tire in your car that's also flat. Diaby's injury problems negate his entire purpose in the squad and as such, I've always wanted him gone. Not too mention that I've never been consistently impressed with his play when he is fit, but that's another discussion.
Ultimately, I think people are crazy to be counting on Diaby next season as a viable option in the centre. He hasn't been for two seasons, so what are the chances of that changing now?

He has had more than enough opportunity. Personally if he can't make it through pre-season without picking up another niggle then we shouldn't register him to play.
Yes he has a stupidly long contract on high wages, but honestly sometimes you need to cut your losses.
Buy him out of his contract and let him go.
I may sound crazy for saying this but Danny Murphy joined Blackburn on a free, Its got to the stage now where I think he could have played more a squad role for us than Diaby ever will.
Unfortunately RVP putting his injury issues behind him will no doubt have clouded AW's judgement on whether or not Diaby can come good

Quite frankly no, not unless he can stay fit for an extended period.
Make no mistake I've always been a fan of his potential but how many years has he been here now and hardly figured?
I know its not his fault he keeps getting injured but this situation is getting ridiculous.
I remember in the FA or Carling cup semi final when we took on Chelsea he was the best young player we had that day and was physically able to compete and booted Terry's head clean off .... but since then?
I'd give him one more season or at least till January then if his injuries are still there its time to sell or let go.

The last time I thought he could make it was before his first leg break. Never showed the same promise after that.
Not sure if it's because I got to see more of him rather than just cameos or if he was a different player after the injury.
Either way, I think he doesn't belong at Arsenal anymore.

I rate him, he's arguably one of the best players in our squad at getting past players, people won't agree with me, but I'd like to see him given a pay as you play deal until he proves his fitness. That would never happen though, so I guess it's time for him to go because wasting 50k(?) on him is very poor business..

When Anthony's lost faith in you, it's obvious he has to go.......

Painfully average when fit aswell imo, although many think he has this immense talent.

People incorrectly assume Rosicky was the reason the team gained form to manage to stay in the top 4 when in fact was Diaby's inspiring cameo vs Liverpool.
He'll be world class someday, but clearly sticking with him was a failed gamble so sell

He's done. This isn't even an RVP case, RVP showed far more than Diaby ever has.
If we can't get rid of him, then we shouldn't even go into the season expecting him to play a role. Fill up our midfield quota, and take anything from him as a bonus.
That said though, I'd rather keep him than Denilson. Thankfully, Denilson should be easier to sell.

Nope, we should sell Diaby this summer. If we can't sell him then loan him out for the whole season. He's never fit, always injured and even when he's fit he's not consistent enough. Diaby takes up room in the 25 man squad as well and is on high wages (60K).
I've never been his biggest fan anyway. Some people say Arsenal stood by van Persie when he was injured so they should do the say with Diaby. But there is a big difference van Persie is a very talented player and Diaby isn't.

Can't really say anything more than what's been said already. Loads of natural talent and athleticism, but unable to stay healthy. Also seems to rely on his (considerable) skills too much and often makes poor decisions and holds on to the ball way too long.
The guy had tons of potential but it hasn't been realized in the 6 years he's been here now. Time to move him on.
