Does Van Persie deserve those farwell parties they do at Arsenal.
I think it's a wrong signal to let these guys have farwell parties anyway. Last year Cesc apparently had a fantastic one and did himself give the armband to Van Persie and players were saying how emotional it was.
I think we should be ruthless with the leaving players. No party, no goodbye, no thank you.
You want to go -> GO! Don't tell us you care or you're fan or you love us.

This not something you should care too much about mate. Its a free, civil society most of us live in. How this is influencing the mentality of the players as they view and experience the various ways these consistent departures play themselves out is a concern. By all accounts Van Persie created a pretty cohesive unit under his leadership. Hopefully that framework will remain after he's gone, regardless of parting celebrations.

It has **** all to do with us. It's just a bunch of guys giving their friend a send off. I'd rather they did that then didn't, regardless of the circumstances said player leaves in. Don't expect the players to turn on their mates as easily or quickly as fans do. It's never going to happen. Gladly.

Do you mean just like a get together with friends? Sure, that's their business (as long as it doesn't harm AFC in any way and isn't funded by our war chest). Obviously nothing official should be done in terms of plagues, quasi-testimonials, etc. - just the obligatory Arsenal-obituary on arsenal.com.

I'm sure we'd prefer it if they shaved the head of the player leaving and tattooed "Traitor" across their forehead, but clearly the departing player's fellow professionals know what the real world's like and that someone has to make their own decisions about their career.
The fact that we regularly see our players warmly greeting as friends players of opposing teams we as fans detest, shows that the interpersonal dynamics of professional footballers are slightly less tribal and clear cut than those of supporters.

Its like your ex-wife throwing a party for you two days after you guys divorced.
You guys think they throw these parties to try and make the player leaving feel guilty of leaving? Ah well, it is what it is.

it's more like a company having a little party because you're leaving after working there for years.
The whole thing has nothing to do with us, so I'm not bothered. He's been their captain for a season, and has been around for years. Not to mention how much time the team actually spends together. Let them say their goodbyes, and move on.

They invite their friends for a get together to say goodbye? The swines! I simply will not have it! All congregations between Van Persie and ANY of his friends socially will hereby be banned with immediate effect!

At the risk of getting all psychological on everyone... Having these parties could actually be a benefit as long as they are positive. It's like the idea of closure in a relationship - it would help the rest of the squad come to terms with the fact that Van Persie is leaving. So, instead of showing up to preseason one morning and Van Persie is just gone, players are in the mental state already that he's out the door and the club is moving on.

hey, we can make our alternative event for them: a F-O party. This thread can be it (maybe gives it reason to exist).

I don't mind having a party at their any other place with whatever they want and whoever want to join them. I just thought Fabregas putting the armband on RVP at a training session is dead wrong. I would ot mind some goodbyes at our facilities as long as it's sober and a bit professional-ish if you know what I mean.
