Lets hope they sort this out without any problems. He's our best defender and will only get better!

At least this won't have any drama.

How long has he got left on his current deal?
User avatar

1macca1 (Trusted Member) on July 9th, 2012, 1:37 pm

Two years left on his current deal. Nice to see the board are starting to learn from their mistakes and not continue leaving players contracts to the very last season. Even if Koscielny had more years left on his contract he should be due a re-negotiation for that large pay rise he deserves.

Give him 5 years, that should see him through the best years of his career.

Actually smiled whilst reading that. Feels like the first good news in ages.

Best defender at the club.

Can be argued he's the best player at the club if/when Robin leaves. Anyway, hope this is true and its something we'll do more with our performing players.

Just because he signs a new contract doesn't mean he is destined to stay with us, purely just means we will get top dollar if someone poaches him.

He is bound to jump at a contract now as he is on the cusp of becoming a top top player, but it give it two years into that contract and Barca/Real/City come knocking the fact he may have 3 years remaining will mean little but a higher transfer fee unfortunately.

The perception of the club and its direction needs to change in order to keep people here. Who knows maybe in a couple of years that will have changed.

Hope that's true, we as a club and us fans, need some positive signs after last week I reckon.

Sounds about right, that French report mentions 2017 which is plus 3 years on his current deal. That'd make him 32? Something like that anyway.

Hugely uplifting news for a change. :) Glad to see something is being done to rectify the contract situations of our players. Now for Walcott.

Agree with QS - Get him signed up for five years.

Not the most reliable of sources, but that's also what's being played back elsewhere.

I actually saw something about Koscielny wanting to extend a few days back, but it was on another forum, with no source, so I didn't post it. If he signs a new 5 year deal, I'll be extremely happy. It's just the sort of steadying the boat we need right now.

But this is exactly the issue, all clubs sell players Man U, Madrid whoever that's football but what isn't professional is to screw yourself out of money with run down contracts .... so yes if they are fulfilling the 24 month renewal idea that's great, if we're ever forced to sell him we can buy a same level replacement with the profit.
Also you'll find the players a lot more plyable at this stage of negotiations because clubs can't hawk on them and throw massive buy cheap/high wage deals at them.

Players will stay when we have a competitive squad and the wage bill is modernised.
Doing the 24 month renewal will help achieve this as well and we'll actually have some buying power for a change.

You mean since about 2 weeks ago when Giroud signed?

Have we given him the armband yet or are we trying the loyalty pitch first?

Hope we can get a deal sorted out soon as that would mean we'd have both him and Vermaelen tied up for the next couple of years. Would be great to have some stability for once.

It's interesting that Vermaelens recent extension will take him to 2015, while if L'equipe reports are to be believed we want Koscielny tied down till 2017. Is this a small change in policy or is it based on how much Arsène rates each player?

He had a decent season last year hope he continues it.

Fully deserves a new contract.

My favorite player at the club. Glad we are getting things sorted out long term with him. The pay raise he'll get will be fully warranted after the work he put in to improve his game over the last season.

The best thing about this, alongside hopefully Koscielny staying for longer, is that the board seem to learning from their mistakes.

Great player and should only get better considering his lack of in the PL. If his improvement this season is anything like last season he could be pushing world class.

I don't know but in my opinion it would be risky to let a player who had a long term injury sign a contract that would tie him at the club for 6 more years. From that point of view I think it was pragmatic to sign an extention until 2015.

I love Koscielny and wish that he stays at Arsenal for a very long time.

dka91 (Forum Member) on July 10th, 2012, 12:32 am

He should stay.

Another player wenger had faith in and it would be nice if he repayed it (as I hope he will).

future heroes (Forum Member) on July 10th, 2012, 12:40 am

We've got our fingers burnt before but Koscielny at least seems to be less of a spoiled brat compared to the likes of Nasri and Fabregas.
