Spending the money (?)

He will spend it on a caramello

progman07 (Lobby Member) on August 15th, 2012, 9:15 pm

A) How would you like it spent, who should we buy from that 25m (and possibly from Song's departure as well, if the reports are true)

B) How will Wenger spend it, in your opinion?

If we sell Song as well, that's probably more than 40m pounds, which we (in my opinion) should splash out on a seriously world class midfielder (if anyone wants to join us after all these), and a fullback. We are still dubious up front, though, if we get injuries it will be Chamakh and Arshavin time quite soon.

I opened it as people have been talking about it in the Robin to Man Utd thread, going off-topic but no real discussion could kick on.

we will have at least 40m from rvp song sales.

we need another 2 midfielders a quality DM and a backup midfield.

and another winger am afraid because if podolski and giroud are rvp replacement we will just have Theo Aoc and Gervinho on the wings.

Spend money?

This will go to building up cash reserves and a new property portfolio for the business, there is no money to be made in investing in players for **** sake think how much more is to be had for a flat development!

Keep Song, there's no need to unsettle the team further, tie down Theo.

£24m on one, proper, flashy winger type to pick up the LW position. That's where i'd want the money to go, that or two fullbacks. Baines and Debuchy.

I think it's very premature to consider Alex Song as a departure. As it stands, he has three years on his contract; Wenger has said that we've had no approach and he's not for sale. Furthermore, Song himself released a statement indicating he's happy at the club.

With regards to van Persie, I'd like to see some of the money invested into a versatile forward to add depth to our attack. I think Podolski and Giroud can share the burden of being our main centre forward. A player capable of playing up front and in our wide forward positions would be very welcome leaving us with:-

ST: Podolski, Giroud
RW/LW: Walcott, X, Chamberlain, Gervinho, Arshavin

If Milan is still lbeeding money Pato could be an option or Boateng/Nocerino perhaps?

Wouldn't even say no to Flamini, he did take a wage cut at Milan recently so maybe he humbled?

If Malaga are in more dire straits I always liked Toulalan at Lyon, we'd have a very offensivly skilled defensive midfield with any combo we could do.

If the board really wanted to send a signal they steal the Hulk deal and De Rossi but that is just fantasy FM speaking

This is the same as Wish list!

Everyone wants Arsène to spend the money. So people are going to put some names.

I can garantee you that he will not use the money of RVP!

Why?

Because we already bought 2 strikers with the money of RVP. This time, he didn't waited till the end of the season but Wenger knew that RVP would be sold anyway. So he spended the 'not received money' on Giroud and Podolski.

Is he going to buy a replacement for Van Persie?

No he won't. He will say we have enought strikers as he will keep Chamakh as our third striker.

Is he going to spend the money on other positions. Don't think so! This was it for us unless he sells Song and replaces him with a new signing.

Unfortunately, I think you are right in everything you have just said.
Wengers transfer windows are all too predictable.

Seriously, do people think this money gets transferred to a personal AW account where he and only he can access and spend this cash?

The board decides how much he's spending, he just spends it how he sees fit. If it is a pitiful amount, then you're going to get dross for the money.

Just like with the Adebayor/Toure sales (£40mish, too) if Song goes then the combined £40m will sit in a nice bank account that Wenger doesn't have access to.

Maybe the team will see £10m of it for re-investment, but probably not.

Spot on I think!

I don't think we need any new attacking players tbh.. though I'd much rather have Park, or even Bendtner, as 3rd choice ST over Chamakh.

The only reason I could see M'Vila coming in was the Rennes' managers quotes from after the match last weekend that they've "received a concrete bid from England" and "expect him to move".. most dismissed this as Spurs, but I think the manager would know the players desires (to not want to play for Spuds) before making his opinion public. Also, with Rennes pursuing Jean Makoun on loan also leads me to believe we could be still pursuing M'Vila.

I agree with what you say about speculation on the RVP sale to buy Giroud/Podolski.. Cazorla whether we had cash reserves or not AW would know it's too good to pass up, and M'Vila only if we were to sell Song, which isn't a given.

I'm more concerned about our squad getting healthy than buying players atm.

If Wenger and the board are serious about challenging we need to bring in 1 more quality player whilst keeping Song and theo.

Am I holding my breath for a new signing?Nope.

Rvp n song balance the books. Good summer gang

RammiXP (Forum Member) on August 16th, 2012, 12:42 am

I think you have all gone crazy!

We are spending no more money. This sale just helps offset the last 3 signings and reduces our net spend.

I would be amazed if we brought in anyone worth more than 7 mil. I would be less surprised to see a cheap striker come in.

We sold some property a few months back for 23-26m (I can't remember the exact figure). On top of RvP's transfer fee we've made 50m from the selling of assets. If around 35-40m was spent on Giroud/Podolski/Cazorla then there definitely has to be money for Wenger to spend.

I highly doubt we'll see any more transfers unless Song to Barca actually happens. The club does have money though, not to mention the cash we'll earn from Bendtner/Vela/Squillaci/(insert unwanted fringe players).

We've money left from transfer profits from last summer too. There is loads of money available to spend. I just hope Wenger doesn't wait it out looking for bargains again.

IIRC those profits were based upon player trading alone,
and the reported 35m transfer kitty wasn't touched directly?

Agreed re your last - moreso if Song departs.

BeijingBaller (Forum Member) on August 16th, 2012, 3:25 am

More players will definitely come in. The real question is will at what quality.

Alkesh (Forum Member) on August 16th, 2012, 4:26 am

I'd like Wenger to take a punt at Jovetic. He's young, technical, and can play across the front three.

Aside from that, a RB and DM are both necessities, especially if Song goes. All depends on who we can get and for what money, I think.

I reckon they're using the money we make each year to pay back the loan in advance and get rid of some of the interest payments, which wouldn't be a bad idea if our team was sorted, but as we all know, it isn't.

We made at least 20m net profit in the last transfer window and have spent about 5m net this one.
We are always told every transfer window by Wenger and the board that we have 30-40m to spend "if the right player becomes available," and "he will improve the squad."

So potentially we could have 50-60m to spend.

We will obviously not spend any of it, unless Song goes.

That is why Man u will be above us in the league, they buy our best player and we are content to let them do it.
There ambition is to win the league, ours is to break even or make a profit.

Now is the time to take some risks and achieve more, the sponsorship renewals are coming and if we slip too far out of contention we wont get the kind of money our rivals are getting. This will in turn mean we are stuck earning less than we could be for yet more years.

That said, Spurs have got a great couple of shirt deals considering their level of play and lack of success and we're a far larger club than they are. We may yet get some surprisingly good sponsorship deals come our way soon.

Falcao- Can't believe this guy is not playing for Barca or Real yet. Sure Atletico is a good team but Falcao has much more to offer and was one of the best strikers in the world last year as well.

Imagin Falcao getting passes on a plate from Cazorla and Arteta??
