Any other options?
(I think not, but let's hear it).

Sagna's probably the closest, but no contest, TV's our next captain.

Give it to Chamakh. That way we'll have Barca and City sniffing in no time.

The only others I would put forward are Chesney, Wilshere (both always state their desire to be with the club for the rest of their careers) or Arteta because of his experience.

Verms got a job to do, lift that feeling before the game. He has it in him, needs to get the official word soon - best by tomorrow morning.

Vermaelen, although I would like to see Koscielny have a go as well. Perhaps Szczesny long-term.

I'd give it to Koscielny and Arteta as Vice. But it will go Vermaelen.

Yeah, has to be Vermaelen doesn't it. Obviously I withdraw my Jack nomination since we don't know when he'll see grass again. I do think, however, that we currently are building a nice collection of 'leaders'. Jack, Sneezy, Kos, Arteta, Sagna (quiet type though), and even Ramsey (don't snigger, he takes charge for Wales). Podolski won't hurt on that front too.
Let's just hope if it goes to Thomas then he's still here this time next year.

TV would be my first choice, after that it's Koscielny. They've both signed long term deals recently and I'm not under the impression they'll easily get their heads turned. If anything, it would be nice to have some consistency for once.

Vermaelen as captain
Arteta as his vice captain

Too bad this is Poldi's first year, he has all the makings of a captain IMO.

Yes, I think this has to be it. Kos be third.
Ant - hopefully Jack's future is not in danger, in which case he's the obvious long term candidate (waaay ahead of Chez and the likes, for whoever wonders). And as for your list of naturals - I think Cazorla is there too (to what extent remains to be seen, but I think he's there), and from a great position on the field. And if (with a little bit of help from the heavens) Rosicky has another magic spell (form wise), he's a natural as well (does so for his NT for ages now).
I see many who have Bac as a candidate. I love the guy to bits, but I can't agree on this one. Don't think he has a grain of captaincy in him. But I guess we all see different aspects.

Yes, Rosicky too. Cazorla, well, I can't speak for him yet but will definitely take your word for it.
On Vermaelen, I reckon we'll see him raise him game this year too. Providing the injury bug stays clear.

Barcelona will probably want a defender next season, best not give Vermaelen or Koscielny it.

He's been captain of Koln for a few years now, hasn't he? He already has captaincy experience.

Posted on Arsenal back in may, 23rd:
http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archiv ... ility-hereI always had this article on the back of head questioning the reason why would Arsenal need to "pimp" TV's leadership qualities! And the picture is prophetic too with a Manchester shirt tucked in RvP's shorts.
The Captain is Dead, Long Live The Captain.

Its Vermaelen for me with Arteta vice.
And first on his list of commands must be that NO ONE kisses the badge. Most of our players today are paid players, not loyal and lets not kid around anymore.
Asso-Ekotto and Arshavin deserve respect for their respective statements.

Vermaelen will be a great captain. You can see he radiates leadership qualities, something which could never be said for Fabregas or Judas van Traitor.
I also happen to think that central defense is the perfect place to have your captain.

Ideally I'd like Arteta to be captain as I want someone in midfield but yes I suppose for time served Vermaelen makes sense.

BAE said he only plays for the money.

Assou-Ekotto is a good guy though, does a lot of community work and stuff.
I'd rather more players were honest, because the autocue statements they get fed by their agents are so stomach-turning. Rodwell said this week that it was a 'dream' to sign for Man City. So as a ten year old kid on Merseyside he dreamed of playing for relegation fodder who had stellar names like Steve Howey, Richard Edghill and Jeff Whitley? Bollocks.

Asso Ekotto admitted that he and many players play for the money, its all about the money really.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010 ... am-hotspurArshavin spoke about the kissing of the badge, or him not doing it.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footba ... badge.htmlThese are statements which get straight to the point and I respect that. Dont mess with the supporters with flimsy statements. Van Persie now falls into that trap and thats why he wont be recognised by me anymore. Fabregas has done similar and he deserves similar treatment I feel.

For time served? 3 years here, played only in2 of them. And - nothing to do with what Halfvolley described as
he radiates leadership qualities, something which could never be said for Fabregas or Judas van Traitor.
This part I find interesting:
NO ONE kisses the badge. Most of our players today are paid players, not loyal and lets not kid around anymore.
I heard a lot of this lately, and in the wake of VP's angel turn snake stunt, it is understood. There's also muc truth in it, I must admit - surely players to day
just are more professional, money oriented than in the past.
But as always, I suspect that there's some psychological need on the part of us fans here. For simplicity, some reliable background plot, etc. "That perfect, honest wife of his who we all thought was one of a kind was cheating on him the entire time; - yeah, all women are whores". Or not. Not all players are the same, and even if there are Arshavins, and VPs (and Song, AE, or whatever) - there are players who really do love their club, are loyal, etc., though it too comes in different ways and manifests itself differently in each case.
Think Thierry. He left us for f*** Barca. Snake? traitor? show me one person who thinks he is, or that doubts he's really a fan, and always has been. I personally think the cesc case was teaching us very different lessons than most, and I still look at him with much affection. Sorry SA, I don't buy the simplistic part, though I can (and do) sympathize with the artificial antics of some of the cynical players. And then there's this:
Assou-Ekotto is a good guy though, does a lot of community work and stuff.
Despite being an honest, no strings attached to anyone and no fake loyalty -
he's still a good guy
.
It's not that I don't see where giovgun is coming from, it's the extreme atmosphere and categorization going on.
Of course a pro can be just playing for money and still be a good guy. I f this comes as a surprise it just means how deep our traditional expectations bind us to these roles they need to play: loyal = good, etc.
