Edin Džeko

Mostarac (Trusted Member) on November 11th, 2008, 3:24 pm

According to German newspapers, scouts from Chelsea, Manchester United and us were watching him tear up Heerenveen in the UEFA Cup where he scored two goals and was man of the match. Needless to say that I would love him to join us, and he has arguably been better than our Bendtner(similar Džeko) this season. As things stand, I am pretty sure he will play in England next season, but it depends to see where he will end up.

Unless someone leaves, there's no point signing him.

From what i've seen he's a good and strong player. I might be thinking of the wrong person though.

Ade's replacement? if Ade is leaving this summer(very likely), then I don't mind to bring him here. otherwise, not needed.
Again, A CB and a DM are much needed right now.

This guy to replace Ade? I don't think so and I really hope not.

In a local newspaper there was a pretty long interview with him a few days ago and if I remember correctly he did confirm that there was interest in him and he was approached by big clubs. But he didn't reveal which ones. Dzeko also stated that AC Milan are his dream club but, surprise, right now he is set to 'help Wolfsburg' and 'give his best for the club', you get the idea. What shocking and unexpected statements from a player, huh!

Also I like Mostarac's comparison with Bendtner, the thought never occured to me before but now that I think about it then yeah, there are quite a few similarities between the two players. I'd say Dzeko is a more refined player, farther down the development road. Then again he is two years older than the Dane and is playing in an arguably worse league.

Is he a no.10 like Bendtner, though? I've always thought of Dzeko as the main striker.

Dzeko staying at Wolfsburg

Suprised no one has posted this yet but he wants to stay at Wolfsburg anyway.
Not going to happen!
Close!

I just seen it too!

Though it does say now Eduardo is back we are well stocked in this department.

We don't need to worry about signing a striker even if we lose Adebayor in the summer.

Been watching since we were linked again - this Dzeko is some player..he's got two more again today for Wolfsburg against Bayern. If anyone saw the Belgium game watch his curled finish for his first goal. Quality.

His strike partner at Wolfsburg looks to be some player too, scared one the cheekiest goals I have ever seen against Bayern yesterday. I don't really follow the Bundesliga but tend to watch the big games, the game yesterday clashed with Arsenal's but I watched it later was thoroughly entertained. Grafite is his name I think, commentator was raving about him.

can this guy boss the midfield? no? next...

ps: to be fair, seems a great player. his 2nd goal against bayern oozed class... great take on a full sprint and excellent left-footed finish just inside the near post.

Both

you rate dzeko that highly, or RVP that poorly? Just asking because I know what RvP is capable of, but have never seen Dzeko.

A bit of both. Dzeko is a stud, he just turned 23, and is ready to explode. I think hes as good as RvP technically, and is clinical in front of goal. I think we could get him for less than the 15M that Barca are apparently offering for RvP.

This guy scored hattrick for Wolfsburg against Hoffenheim...

Wow...

Lots of vids of him on youtube.

The few times I've seen him, I've always come away impressed most by the intelligence of his runs. He always ends up in the box and always seems to end up getting himself in good positions to score. Good touch with both feet, good composure on the ball.

Man I'd love to see him running onto the end of Arshavin passes

Yeah he seems to make good runs and seems a a confident finisher. He's quite tall but you cant really tell if he uses that to good effect from the youtube clips. Whats he like with back to goal? How strong is he? What of his link up/combination play? How do we know he isnt Mario Gomez mark II that wont cut it outside Bundeliga?

nazo (Elite Member) on May 3rd, 2009, 5:53 am

We've been interested in him for a while, so if Wenger wants him, he'll get him (unless ManCity jump in and make a monster bid for him).

He is excellent in all those departments.

World class player now I'd say.

Then sign him up! What we need to do this summer is go out and tie deals up early for a change. Sends out a positive vibe and means all new players have maximum time to gel during pre-season.

Ofcourse, iiiif, and it's a big if, Wenger actually wants to bring anyone in, we're bound to low ball the players club and drag things out. Oh what fun summers are.

clockwork orange (Elite Member) on May 3rd, 2009, 12:43 pm

Dzeko links up very well with Misimovic, who had nearly 20 assists. Reminds me of another player, who had a great relation with his supplier: Bergkamp. Bergy & Jonk were a similar couple to those Bosnians. Dzeko is more of a striker though (and a damn good one).

kooldawg (Forum Member) on May 3rd, 2009, 12:53 pm

If Ade goes to Milan and RvP moves to Barca, which could occur, then Dzeko would be the best alternative. We already have Eduardo, Bendtner, Vela and Theo so we should be set in the striker department with his addition.

He's going to cost a pretty penny though.

We don't really need a striker though unless someone leaves.
