So, who was your player of the month?

Click on the link below, and place your vote!
And in the comments below, tell us who you voted for, and why you think this player deserves the accolade. Was it a significant goal, a couple of moments of brillance in a series of games, or just the players overall performance throughout the month?

POLL: CLOSED

(Requested by a Lobby member for The Lobby, and I thought I might aswell create a sister thread in the mains, using the same poll. It's a bit of a trial of an idea, that can be replicated throughout the season, so let's see how it goes! :) )

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

August Player of the Month Results:
1) Cazorla 57% - 184 votes
2) Arteta 17% - 54 votes
3) Mertersacker 5% - 16 votes

So your winner is ... Santi Cazorla!

Cazorla.

He's hit the ground running and has been immense in all 3 games so far, and finally got his reward at Anfield in the form of a goal and an assist.

I voted for the corporal.

Kid has been great at RB for us, when I look back to him a year ago getting roasted at Man Utd and being sent off to watching him at Anfield absolutely bossing it (apart from a few wayward passes) it gave me a lot of pleasure.

Cazorla by a mile for me. Already the creative hub of the side and you can see Wenger wants him on the ball as much as possible.

Per has impressed, Santi of course has settled in straight away and looks pure class, Poldi is playing a level above what I thought he was capable of... but my vote goes to Micky Arteta who I think has been so so crucial at the start of this season for us.

Arteta: fantastic player and a key component in our good defensive start to the season. Honourable mention to Cazorla too.

Went for Arteta, completely going to disregard the Pool game as it's been played in September.

Cazorla for me.

Santiago for me. Arteta comes in as a close second.

I went for Arteta. He picked up where he left off last season.

Santi's miles in front though. Between them either way for me.

Cazorla.. everything positive we created came through him, not to mention a goal and an assist v. Liverpool (who cares when it was played).. Arteta gets a shout too

 @ Chamakh getting 3 votes.

Santi, honourable mention for improvement to Jenks.

Cant believe anyone bar Santi has a vote. He was by far our best player, even more so considering they were his first 2 games in England.

I voted Arteta, think he's been our rock and our top performer throughout the opening 3 games.

Did you make the poll, Irish? If so, nice work and great idea.

I voted Santi, not only he produced three quality performances, scored a goal and made an assist but he also made it out like he's doing it for ages in the PL. Didn't expect he'll blend in so quickly, kudos to the little magician.

Cazorla obviously.

4 trolls voted for Squilacci and Chamakh. God, I completely forgot we have Squid at the club.

Maybe next time the options should be restricted to players that actually played, or contributed.

Obviously it's not going to make a difference this time because Cazorla is the clear favorite but what if in the future two players get the same amount of votes and then someone else has wasted their vote on Squillaci.

Cazorla has been our best by a fckn mile. Was really the only player that looked like creating anything in our first two games.

With the Liverpool game has to be Diaby, without Arteta or Mert.

It'll be just the same default pole, replicated every time. It's up to voters to use their own discretion and vote wisely.

Also, @ Beksl, yeah, it's pretty easily done really. But the credit for the idea has to go the Lobby member 'Luzhnys_Left_Boot'. Next time I make the thread, I'll include fixture results, top goal scorers in that month, and a couple of other neat stats to spice the thread up a little. This was just a dummy run.

Santi and Art more or less the same (Santi, cause he gave me enthusiasm back). Gibbs special mention.

Fair enough.

I was just thinking it would be a shame if the vote was close and it got skewed because some muppets thought they would vote for Chamakh.

I doubt it'd matter anyway, the majority of the time there will be a clear cut winner, such is the case with August.

I think by November this thread might as well be named "Runner Up Player of the Month" because i can see Cazorla taking it out every month.

Santiiiiii

Brilliant opening games from Cazorla. I'd say Arteta is second followed by Vermaelen. All three have been excellent so far this season.

glaveror (Forum Member) on September 7th, 2012, 12:30 am

Definitely Cazorla-new to the league but instantly showed his class, like I've said before it's a true pleasure to watch him on the pitch.
Great idea for this thread and let's hope it will be more of a contest with more players stepping up a level or two.

Our two Spaniards have been sensational.

It's brilliant that I could legitimately make a case for 5/6 players (Cazorla, Arteta, Per, Verms, Diaby, Gibbs). But I have to vote for Cazorla, was the creative hub vs Sunderland, and made everything happen at Anfield.

DJ_Markstar (Forum Member) on September 7th, 2012, 2:14 am

I thought we were ignoring Liverpool as it happened in September?
