Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has confirmed his intention to return to North London at the end of the season, when his loan spell with Roma is complete.

The Polish international joined the Serie A outfit on a season-long loan deal this summer, after the arrival of Petr Cech meant the former first-choice stopper would see first-team football at the Emirates Stadium limited.

Arsene Wenger has maintained that he still sees Szczesny as Arsenal’s future first-choice stopper, with Petr Cech 33, and the 25-year-old was quoted by ESPN as stating he’d return to Arsenal whenever required.

“Nine months is a long time in football and anything can happen, but Arsenal are like a family to me and I’ve got to admit that if the Gunners do call me back, I would say yes,”

“If a year ago, somebody had told me I’d be playing for Roma, I would have thought it impossible. I could see myself at Arsenal for all my life, and I don’t hide the fact that is still my dream. I owe a lot to the people there and if they were to give me an opportunity, I would play for them.”

Szczesny has enjoyed plenty of first-team action in Italy, being Roma’s first-choice goalkeeper throughout the campaign; excluding the three-games he missed through a finger injury.

The talented keep finished by stating he hopes for a double this season, with Roma and Arsenal winning domestic honours.

“I know that I still need to improve a lot but I’m working every day to do this and to give it my best. I hope to win the Scudetto here, and I hope that Arsenal win the Premier League.”
